I am a 4-banger owner since i bought my Tacoma brand new in April 2016 and i have not been unhappy with anything. I knew what i was getting when i bought it, i don't pull anything and rarely haul anything in bed more than a few hundred pounds. I have driven my Tacoma through the Smoky Mountains twice, drove over 1700 miles on a vacation from Ohio up through the Michigan U.P. to Munising then across to Sault Ste Marie etc.
I use my ECT if i needed a boost going through mountains and never had any issues, it done just fine. I love my SR5 4X4 Taco

Here is a video of my V6 running at idle. Turn the sound way up. This thing is like a sewing machine.

Is there an engine, ever made, that you could not learn about its “troubles” from a YouTube vid? Probably not. The truth is in the numbers. Hundreds of thousands of these 3.5s lugging thousands of pounds of overland crap and moldy RTTs around on 33’s and what do we have?

A couple guys with a blown valve, some with timing chain leaks, and the dude who forgot to oil his AFE filter or something and then went postal on Toyota Corporate for denying warranty when he dusted his engine.

I dunno. Toyota does lots wrong, can’t paint a frame to save their lives, and made lots of crappy V6 engines in Japan, but their USA made V6s have been great in all flavours.

A couple guys? I’m sure you’ll find a couple dozen timing cover leaks or broken valve springs just in the links I provided earlier. Oh Stocklocker your ability to gloss over must be legendary as well lol.

    OK let’s do the math:

1,191,030 Tacomas sold in Canada and USA as of the end of 2020 MY. Let’s ignore all 2021 sales and count them as the 4 cylinder, as I cannot find the exact ratio of V6 to 4cyl.

So let’s say we have 1,166,000 V6s on the road today, taking 25,000 away due to accidents and whatnot.

You claim 24 valve failures. Let’s say only 1/2 of valve failures ended up reported on TW.

So let’s say 48 trucks with broken valve springs.

So 1 in every 24,292 3.5L V6 engines has a valve spring issue that is covered under warranty. And yet it’s still headlines in your mind. I dunno. I’m good with those figures. There is literally a million + of these 3.5L V6’s on the road right now.

Anyways @davidstacoma . They need you over at the WHO, clearly.

Maths haha. There’s an old saying, garbage in garbage out. A “couple points” ;)
    1. I took exception to your “couple guys” claim. Now you’ve expanded it at least.
    2. Seriously now you extrapolate 24 on TW with issues to only 48 in the rest of the world? You give our little TW world way too much credit, undoubtedly a far larger number with issues on the V6 or even the I4.
    3. I said the I4 and the V6 were likely both quite reliable. Just took an exception to you saying only a “couple guys” having issues with the V6. See 1 above. Now I have you in a do loop ;)
    Cheers :D

Hey, I’m open to whatever way you want to spin the numbers. Hit me up with your take. How many of these million V6’s do you think are lemons?
