5 weeks later and 498.2 miles on 17.888 gal for 27.9 mpg.

Warm weather is taking it's time.

At least gas was only $2.859 with $0.80 off with Safeway points.

Filled up today, had a partial fill of 8.0 gal, plus a full fill of 17.08 gal to go 659.1 miles. Equaled 26.3 MPG. Cant believe I am using the A/C already. Its like freakin summer here already. It is in the 70's almost every day since about the middle of the month. It was in the low 80's today. Want to restart the 2012 conspiracys anyone?

As low as 12mpg, lots of city, lots of hills...steep hills. Pretty bad for a 4x2 single cab.

17 Gallon tank. Cost me about $65 to fill up. I drive like a grandpa considering gas is to fine to be moving too fast, and my truck is brand spankin new. My 94 Camry; that had 278,000+ miles on it when i traded it in, got about 400 miles to a full tank with a 15 gallon tank. So i'm definitely not complaining.

Gonna drive this truck til the wheels fall off!!!!:D

How many gallons did it take? 17, or are you saying it's a 17 gallon tank and it wasn't empty?

2nd gen Taco has a 21 gallon tank, so I assume you put 17 gallons in. That's only a little over 22mpg.

I've still yet to see the low fuel light and I've been wanting to "play" in this thread, but I've been on call and I have to keep at least 1/4 tank available for midnight calls to work.

I go off call Monday, and I have 230 miles on the current tank, so maybe I'll push it to the light to see what I can get. I go to 350-370 all the time and it's never been lower than a "tick" below 1/4. Never taken more than 16 or 16.5 gallons that I can remember.

After reading this thread, I just had to join. I bought my Tacoma in December. I was getting around 15-17mpg. no matter what. My first tank was 200 and some odd miles. Gas shot up. Lame. And my cousins Tacoma V-6 was getting better mileage than my 4cyl... 3800 miles now...I have always written mileage; divided by gallons cause it's $80+ to fill up and, well.. Long story short, 10 gallons = 250 miles... I coast if I can, I drive mellow. Driving is a mix, local roads, highway, traffic. Any help? Engine break in seemed to be a factor. Will it get better? I know it's a truck & a4wd and all, just would be nice to have a few more mpg's. You folks are great.

250 miles on 10 gallons is decent.
That's 25mpg. My '08 has just over 60k on it (well broken in) and I get between 24 and 26 on most tanks.
Highway mileage running 70+ drops a bit... 22 on the highway in Texas and New Mexico (80mph).

Speed kills mileage in these trucks.

I don't drive like grandpa. My morning commute is 45 miles at around 70, commute home is at 10-40. If I need to hammer it to get around someone, merge, or make a lane change, I'll hammer it. My speedo regularly sees the high side of 80 for short periods.

Thanks for the info Rich. This morning was 11 gal. I was 75-80 mph. on my way to work and back. I know I'll pay. ( for more gas definitely.) I took the mudflaps off, never checked mileage. Didn't like em'.. Will update..

    Just realized you've got a 4x4.
I think 25mpg out of a 4x4 is pretty damned good, especially on this "stuff" that the State of California seems to think can pass as "Gasoline"

Okay... FINALLY got a low fuel light today.
It was getting so close to E that I was having 2nd thoughts that the RC base 5-lug even had one, but it came on at 415 miles....

Only 24.5... not one of my better tanks, but I've been running the AC on the way home the last 3 days.

I am actually not doing horribly running the 30's and MPGs. I'd bet about 330 to a tank at this point and I'm still fighting the cold weather just a little bit.

Since I'm not so good at the whole hypermiling thing, I focus my energy on "hyperfuelperking" (cashing in fuel perks from my Bi-Lo purchases). Have a look below. :D

I'd only be guessing but since the epa rates my truck at 21/25 (23) and the 4x4 is 18/20 (19) that's a 4mpg difference. Maybe I could get 26mpg?

    Yup.

I do it all the time.

The above image shows a tank at 24.5, which is a fairly typical "low"... I get just as many tanks at 26 as I get at 24.5.
