I don't know how you guys are getting a full gallon in after the 1st click.

Mine clicks, and no matter how easy I go, I don't get more than another .25 or so... no way I'd try to squeeze another half gallon in there, much less a full gallon.

But while consistency is key, it's the averages that are important.
You can "short" a tank by 2 gallons and it'll spike your MPG by quite a bit, but it'll even out on the next tank and you'll see something artificially low...
    24, 24, 24, 26, 22, 24, 24.... average is still 24.
What matters is average over a fair sized time frame, and trends.
One tank at 28 may or may not be good news... but a Fuelly graph that is trending upward IS good news.

    Not good...
Eventually, that will flood your evap system and you'll throw a CEL because the charcoal canister is flooded and can not purge itself.

On the size of the UG...

The only thing I don't like about it is there is no connector on the unit. It's hardwired to the cable that plugs into the OBD-II port.
I was able to tuck the cable under the headliner without a problem, and the opening below the A-Pillar is big enough to pass the OBD-II connector.

But... I went above the mirror because it is pretty well hidden from people walking by. I'm not crazy about having something that looks like a GPS plainly visible.

Nahh... seriously it would look like shit if it weren't hidden.

It was a matter of scouring Home Depot and buying $25 worth of "I might be able to use this" stuff and actually using maybe $5 worth of it.

I hear ya...I'm happy with my mileage considering it's been 95-100 degrees out every day, so the AC is a must.

I used to drive a 4 banger. Anyone saying they get over 30 it full of it. Maybe if they are driving down from the sierras coasting pretty much the whole time/ drafting or something. up to 28 seems reasonable for putting down the highways.

I've averaged over 30 MPG on 5 separate FULL tanks. It is not a joke. Anyone with mild knowledge of hypermiling techniques and self control can accomplish this with a 5 lug.

I get 25 without thinking about it.
I get 26 being somewhat conservative.
My SRT mileage is occasionally 28 when I get to work in the morning... the afternoon commute home kills the average.

We have a couple of people here that are into "hypermiling" and are able to pull 30-32 out of the 2.7

According to your chart you fill up less than once a month on average? It's also very speratic, so unless your cruising down the highway for a whole tank and doing heavy city driving the next it seems inaccurate. My mpg varies at the most 2-3 mpg even when I tow and drive int the city. Not to be a dick or anything but I really dont believe it. When you have more consistant fill ups your mpg is below 30. I go through about 2 tanks a week in my v6. Many times in your chart you go over a month without filling up. I drove a 80's 4 banger and got about 24 when I babied it down the highway. I know that the 05+ engines are more efficient but there is no way that they are over 50% more efficient. The trucks themselves are also much larger and presumably heavier now.
Maybe you can practice "hypermilling" aka drafting, rolling stop signs and running over inflated tires to get ridiculous fuel economy, but I dont really consider that normal driving myself, even if someone practices it on a regular basis.

Also, with all due respect, just because a person inputs a bunch of data into a fancy graph doesn't make it credible. I could go into fuelly for the next four years and claim that I got 50 mpg in my tank and it would mean as much as that graph. The only way to know for sure is if your truck automatically input the data. Take it with a grain of salt.

I don't know if you guys are just jealous of some of us or what....but we have no reason to lie about our fuel economy. I'm not getting paid to sit here and lie to you. All I do is track every tank I put through the truck, and post my data in a thread created by someone else. I've put over 80 full tanks of fuel through my truck and every single one is recorded on my fuelly account. As you can see my lifetime average is over 26 MPG, and if you dig deep enough you will find the tanks that are 30+ MPG. It is very possible without drafting (which I never do).

I probably average 550+ on a tank and yes that usually takes 4-5 weeks. I have a 18 mile round trip at 45-50 speed limit, one tank goes a long way, not as well in the winter as summer, that's when it is below 30mpg.

I already said I don't draft, and that I inflate to 44-50 psi. I only have 2 stop signs on my daily commute, not much opportunity to get ridiculous fuel economy from that. I do however get much enjoyment from timing the 10 stoplights on my daily commute so that I hit a green light instead of racing to the red like you probably do? I also commute early when traffic is light so it's rare that some retard get's bent out of shape trying to get to the red light.

Don't be jelly because you can't keep your foot out of it and your underinflated, oversized tires are holding your MPG down at 20.

    I routinely get 25+...
My typical morning commute is at 65-70 for 43 miles, then the same 43 miles in heavy traffic coming home.

Today, I went in an hour early and left an hour early.
Better flow on the way home, and better MPG than usual, but on the trip in this morning I was rolling 70-75.

That 5mph was enough to make the difference when I got home tonight between seeing my usual 25.5 and seeing 24.1 on the trip MPG indication.

If someone is going to lie... sure, they can, but why?
The mention of the sporadic refueling intervals... if they were skipping refueling their numbers would be in the 40-60 range rather than the 30-35 range.

Filled up tonight, 559 miles on 17.11 gallons for 32.7 mpg.

For fun I looked at some averages by month and by year. Not exact just rough averages

Jan- 26.8 Coldest month of the year
    Feb - 28.0
    Mar - 29.0
    Apr - 31.2
    May - 31.7
    Jun - 33.4
    Jul - 33.6
Aug - 33.1 Hottest month but I only use A/C minimally.
    Sep - 32.7
    Oct - 31.5
    Nov - 28.6
    Dec - 28.2

    2005 - 27.5
    2006 - 28.2
    2007 - 31.8 Started hypermiling seriously.
2008 - 34.0 No more E0 during the summer, and Michelin hydro-edge tires worse rolling resistance than stock goodyears.
    2009 - 31.4
    2010 - 29.1
    2011 - 29.0
    2012 - 29.9

I gotta 'fess up, I've been inputting these totally made up numbers for the last 8 years in a lame attempt to impress a half dozen people on the internet. Major fail.

When I ran mine in the woods for work, using load range E tires, my average hovered around 20mpg. I changed jobs and now find myself with a 22 mile commute on a 55mph 2 lane. I put on the stock Dunflops, inflated them to 40psi, and now find myself with a 22.4mpg running average (last 10 tankfuls), this with towing my 5700lbs trailer on three 120 mile round trips, and a best tankful of 26mpg.

No funny business, just careful with the skinny pedal...

The change in tires netted me an over 2MPG gain.

I believe WW's numbers - very achievable especially for the 5 lug trucks with manual transmission. With a regular cab Ford Ranger, I was knocking on the 30 mpg milestone (highway) and I was doing it with a roof rack and bed rack installed fulltime. 2.5L with an auto tranny - 2wd with 15" wheels.

With my extracab Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 with auto tranny and 16" wheels, my around town mpgs are around 23 routinely. I average around 45-50 mph depending on the speedlimit. 7 stop signs and 3 lights where I'm almost certain to be stopped at 2. For the same ride in my Ranger, 25 mpgs routinely. I'm ok with the tradeoff for the larger tires, higher ride, and 4x4 for winter.

I took the truck up to Boston this past weekend. I had an extra passenger and ran the AC fulltime. Average speed was around 70 mph. Up and back I got 23.4 mpgs. Given the speed and AC, I was OK with the number. I usually travel at lower speeds, but we needed to make time on the ride up and getting home before 2 a.m. a clear objective for me. At 60-65 in my Ranger with full AC and a passenger, I would get around 27.5. Not sure what mark-up I'd have gotten for going slower in the Tacoma, but probably only off from the Ranger numbers by about -10%.

I don't do all the tricks WW does and I don't run overinflated tires, so the numbers he's posting seem reasonable to me especially for a 2nd Gen Tacoma.

Filled up this afternoon. 491.5 miles 18.76 gallons = 26.2 MPG Another good tank considering the over half of the days on this tank were above 100F

462.4 miles on 18.187 gallons for an average of 25.4 MPG...not bad considering AC is always on and I was never on the highway. (I probably spent less than 25 miles in 5th gear).
