It's disturbing how very little around town driving can hammer your MPG.
This last tank, two trips to work and I was at 25.6 on the UG... one of my better tanks.

Friday I had the day off, went shopping.
Stop 1 - America's Tire to fix the TPMS. Truck idled for maybe 10 minutes while he reset the system.
Stop 2 - Up Central 5 miles to Sears.
Stop 3 - Back down Central, up Riverside to Costco
Stop 4 - Back down Riverside to Sam's Club
    Straight home.

When I got home, the UG was showing 23.4 for the tank.

Had an after hours call last night and this morning. Two more trips to and from work REALLY WORKING it... maintaining 65 and even some DWL... I ended up at 377 miles, 15.1 gallons for 24.9
Not one of my best tanks, not the worst.

But jeez... 4 trips to and from work is normally 350 miles. Only 27 miles out of 200 were enough to hammer my MPG down by over 2mpg.

And people think they're getting valid data when they install a magnet on their fuel line and claim they really got 1mpg more.

I put back in the original OEM filter which was removed at 5K, it was stored in a BA Ziplock bag. The secondary filter was removed when the ProDry S went in. I bought a Fram on Amazon but does not fit in the airbox well, so it never really went in.

If I had to do it over I would probably stay stock. Or the AFE with the secondary still in place. The main reason I put the OEM back in, was because the AFE moans like a cat in heat at higher highway speeds. It gets old. At least my 57 yr old ears think so.

Lately when in town in 30-35 MPH zones, I shift to 4th and lug it a little, the Ultragauge will show 28-35 MPG on the instant meter. Those of us who do these little things, show that doing all of them adds up. Compared to when I first got the Tacoma I would ave 23-24 MPG but now its 26-27 when using non winter blend fuel. Right now that $7 a tank goes in my pocket instead of the oil robber barons.

My first fill up - 270 miles on 12.93 gallons 20.9MPG.
Beats the 99 Jeep TJ that I traded in, it usually got 15MPG and it was a 4 banger.

ps how do I add the Fuelly detail in my signature? I did a search and had no results.

Good first tank. They will get better along the way. Especially after the first couple of oil changes. Welcome to the thread.

I ran mine out of gas on purpose and made, if I remember correctly, 525 miles. I went something like another 115 miles after the light came on, just fyi for you guys out there curious about how long you have until you ACTUALLY run out of gas :D

I don't see anything in your Fuelly higher than 20.86 gallons, yet we've had a couple of reports of being able to get a full 21 in there (pulling into the station on vapor).

Was that one of the tanks that got missed?

Go back through on my listings and there should be two there where I went over 500.

    ***EDIT***
    Found them:
    Listing #28 and 29 on 8/7/11 and 7/19/11

My 521 mile one (I had it wrong in my original post, I thought it was 525) I clocked at 20.86 gallons :0

    ***DOUBLE EDIT***
Ooops, read your post wrong. No, I actually don't remember if that was the one I clocked running out of gas or not (the 521 one) :/ I was mainly testing how far I could actually drive past the light before I ran out of gas in case for whatever reason I needed to drive that much (i.e. emergency or something).

489.7 miles on 18.763 gallons for an average of 26.1 MPG. I had one trip to the beach (~190 miles) that bumped my mileage up a little.

Not trying to one up ya Who Dat, just got back from trip to Denver and timing was right to snap a few shots. I would have been more like 38.4 if I hadn't needed to stop by the grocery story through heavy traffic.

    Don't feel bad.
Wads is a hypermiler and shuts his engine off when rolling down hill (don't try that with an automatic).

This morning, the UG showed 28.3 for my SRT MPG (MPG for that one session, automatically resets every time the ignition is cycled).
Total for my tank so far is 25.4... got enough for one more trip to work and will be gassing up tomorrow.

Now you can feel bad... My gauge typically matches Popcorn's at around 150 at 1/4 down. But I'm still running the stock 215/75-15 shoes.

Overall, I'm happy with my MPGs. What I've done to the truck...and it's still over the sticker MPG rating! I have a decent one going at the moment. See where I'm at with 1/4 tank gone.
