Yes that is the best I've seen with a prerunner, well done. Keeping it at 65 or below really helps.

Do you think the bed cover is helping?

So where are you located litegide24?

At Boulder's altitude I know I benefit from thinner air on wind resistance to some extent, maybe a 2-4 mpg, just a guess.

Without shutting my motor off with mild winds just setting the cruise at 60 can get me 36-38 mpg which even I find unbelievable out of this truck. High winds hurt but it's often what we get around here.

And in a way that 19/25 is BS, because a base 5-lug gets the same 19/25 as a double cab pre-runner. That's Toyota taking advantage of the letter of the law on EPAs rating system.

I'd guess leveling the front will hurt aerodynamics.

Here is what winter weather does to mine, and I'm sure Chicago has rougher winters than Boulder, surprisingly mild in the front range compared to the Wisconsin I came from.

Most likely fuel filter. I think Gadget has said the fuel filter start to clog up at 60,000.

A combination of things, and not likely the fuel filter.

1 - after the summer of 2009 in yellow the gas station I was getting 100% gas discontinued that and 10% ethanol is all I can find.

2- Between Aug/Sept of 2009 I replace the factory tires with Michelin Hydro-edge tires that claimed to be low rolling resistance but they turned out to be MUCH worse that the oems. Within 10 miles of getting the new tires I could feel that was a mistake just from the normal coasting distances I'd gotten used to. After 20K miles they do seem somewhat improved but still not as good as the basic oems.

3 - With the mediocre performance of the new tires I was disappointed and kinda lost the will to try my best knowing I wasn't gonna be breaking any new records, and haven't been as diligent.

In May of 2009 you can see a trip from Boulder to Memphis and back where I broke from 60-65 and drove 5-10 over the speed limit down into the thick air off the mountain.

2008 was an incredible year eh! 33.8 mpg for the year!

All I know about winter, my MPGs take a nose dive. I switch up to premium to get any kind of decent mileage. Typically I'm around 60 miles when the needle is right below the Full line, in winter...it was horrible, mid 30's.

I don't think my driving habits helped a whole lot in the winter. Heavier throttle to warm her up quicker, stop and go all the way to work. Hopefully UG will be able to save me some $$ this winter.

Which reminds me, I need to start looking at seat warmers. Something I can just slide under the seat covers and plug into the 12v outlet.

Just took a little road trip, put some miles on this tank. Just below half and I'm around 250.

We'll see...the remainder of this tank will be spent doing 7.5 miles trips to and from school/ work. I'd love to break my personal best of 30.9.

This barely qualifies as math...MILES DIVIDED BY GALLONS. There's no way to mess that up.

I have a Mechanical Engineering degree.

I would like you to explain how to properly calculate MPG. What errors are we making?

great job with a degree. i am making a simple statement. i do not know how you fudge the numbers or make mistakes. i am simply saying... i believe a mistake is made. when your getting numbers that no one else can duplicate... you might have made a mistake.

No, these numbers have been duplicated...over and over again by various people who actually understand how to drive efficiently.

I drove 473 miles on my last tank and filled up with 17.1 gal. You do the math.

You are aware that you're in the 4 Cylinder forum, correct?

i know i am in the 4 cylinder forum. yes, i have a v6. i would have bought a damn 4 cylinder if thought i could get 30mpg. what does toyota put of the sticker for mpgs for a 4 cylinder? just wondering. i would never in my wildest dreams thought a tacoma could get 30mpg with the 4 banger. if others are getting the same, i apologize.

Yes, many of us can get over 30 MPG in our Tacoma's. It's called hypermiling and you should really read up on it. It only takes a small amount of effort and the willingness to learn. Some take it to higher extremes than others.

Plenty of people out there can get 100+ MPG out of their commuter cars. I believe the world record is two hundred something MPG out of a factory car. This sounds crazy, but it is 100% real, and it's in the Guinness Book.

    EDIT: 164 MPG http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermiling
