    Bone stock
    So I just bought my Tacoma a few days ago and got 19.2 mpg out of the first tank. It has codes for both upstream and down stream O2 sensors. Haven't got them replaced yet. What can I expect to get for mileage out of this thing? I've read through the post and seen anywhere between 20-36 mpg, but I don't know everybody's set up. Mine is a 2.7, 5 speed, 4x4, access cab, with 265-70r16's on the factory steel wheels, looks to be 100% stock. Would love to improve mileage, anything to help aside from driving habits?

    URD S/S, Eibach pro-truck @ 0.8" lift, hanook 265/75r16 AT
    The people getting the super good mileage is the 5 luggers because they have lower gearing, the lower height improves aerodynamics which helps with highway mpg, and because they have the least amount of weight. 4x4s seem to get around 19 or 20 mpg (myself included), though that can vary with the driver and location of course. As far as maximizing mpg in the 5 spd, its mostly about trying to use as little throttle as necessary. Another tip is to downshift when you anticipate stopping and coast as much as possible in gear rather than braking because the injectors shut off and allow the truck's momentum to keep the engine turning. It seems to help a lot in the city where stop-and-go traffic can be brutal.

    This might also be implied but keep your rpms low. I tried running like 2200-2300(~75mph) on interstate and got 19.7 in a double cab with 265/75 mud tires. Then I ran 85 at about 2900 Rpm for awhile and got 16 mpg.

    Finally a solid tank, warm weather is the key.

    485 miles on 16.11 gallons for 30.1 mpg.

    Filled up earlier than usual since I was in Longmont where the Safeway gas station is. Got a $0.50 per gallon deduction.

    With your setup, and with working O2 sensors, the very best you will see is 16 city / 26 highway. Average around 20. Just a guesstimate of course. This includes all the tips and tricks we see in these threads. In your situation it's the 4x4 configuration and large tires that hurt fuel economy.

    At those speeds, wind resistance affects fuel economy as much as RPMs, maybe more.

    thats actually pretty solid. Thats after you converted the tire difference Im assuming?

    The force of air resistance (all things kept the same) increases by the square of the velocity. Therefor increasing from 75 mph to 85 mph the force of air resistance increases by 28.4% or 8655.36 newtons at sea level.

    Cruisin offroad bumper, RCI front skid, Bakflip Tonneau Cover, Westin Running Boards, door molding, Blazer Led lights, Bed Lights, DIY Bed/rear cab mats, 3M Clear Bra (Hood and Fenders), Husky front floor mats, re diff relocated, Coverking seat covers
    Just did a run up the highway today to deal with some stuff, total distance was 259.3km, litres to fill up from same exact pump was 25.3L, thus giving me 9.7 L/100km. Speed was 100-110km/h the whole trip with about 8km in 4x4 on camp road

    Glad I got the 5spd :)

    I've pretty much averaged 17 mpg since new on my truck. It is leveled on 265/75-16 E rated tires. I did those mods when the truck had 500 miles on it so no real stock comparison. I don't drive with a lead foot either. I did see 21 mpg on a road trip to Chicago, but haven't been able to replicate that since. Typical road trips end up around 19 mpg on average.

    I knew the mileage going into it and I made it worse by doing the mods to the truck. Oh well.

    It's a manual transmission BTW.

    Fat Bobs 2.75 lift and level with short AAL, 16x8 Level 8 Guardian Wheels, 245/75R16 Toyo Open Country ATII, custom trans shift kit(home made), Trans temp. and Vac gauge, URD fuel pump upgrade(going back to stock soon).
    2005 Taco 5 lug lifted and leveled with an auto. 75 MPH is 1950-1975 RPM and I average 18 MPG. Best the truck has ever gotten it's entire life was 21 MPG. Tiny inefficient truck lol. 195,xxx on the clock.

    Lift, Auto, and presumably much larger tires to get 75mph at under 2000 all add up to your bad results. I'm 60 mph at 2000.

    Do you bother adjusting your mileage for the larger tires, your odometer isn't accurate anymore.

    For me, the 2.7 if very efficient.

    Speedometer and odometer is accurate. In-line speedometer calibrator.
    Tire size is 245/75R16. The truck needs 4.10 rear gears to be within a factory spec like the 2TR-FE Prerunner.

    Depending on what you want 4.3 or 4.56 might be even better with that automatic.
