Never Never Modify! Keep it aggravation free!
I'm driving in crazy New Jersey and Philadelphia! The people drive like lunatics and the 2.7 auto has more than enough power. I am also impressed that running through snow in 4 wheel drive the truck still had adequate power. 2.7 is fantastic!!

Turtle Edition, I love that, I have an 04 2.7 and will be looking around for a TRD Turtle Edition sticker, maybe I’ll have one custom made!

It accelerates great. You barely notice it.

Haha I would buy one. I had to get used to revving the crap out of my 2.7, and then the acceleration is fine. My old (and even slower) 1992 GMC Sonoma had no benefit to revving past 3K, it just got louder but not faster.

I like my 2.7, although in a 2018 that weighs 4000lbs+ me and gas, maybe 4300 to 4400lbs, it's could be quicker. I find that the problem is with the other drivers, tailgating and such. No matter what your driving, your going to have to deal with the idiots on the road, people really show their personality on the road.

You need a sticker like this one for the tailgaters

Maybe about 4 times that size, so the dumbasses could read it a hundred yards back!!

Bought my ‘04 with 90K on it’s 2.7 a couple months ago. I guess I’ve been spoiled by driving Grand Cherokee V8s for 6 years and my wife’s MDX for the last 2. The 1st time I pulled the Taco out in traffic and jumped on it I had a serious “oh shit” moment because acceleration-wise nothing happened and the cars behind me climbed up my tailgate as the ones in front disappeared over the horizon. New plugs and cleaning the MAF and TB helped but I’m still learning to deal with it. Merging on freeways and pulling out into traffic takes some planning and finesse. I can pretty much go as fast as everyone else on the freeway it just takes me longer to reach cruising speed. And I’m fine with that. I’m not going to drive with my foot in the fuel injectors to try to make someone else happy. If I’m in front of you one morning and you're pissed that it’s taking me longer wind up to highway speed then leave your house earlier so you can be in front.

Ya gotta rev it. The first to second shift is slow even at low revs but once you get into second just rev it up to about 3500 rpm and do it in every gear until you reach the speed you desire. At 4000 rpm is when the "serious" power of the 2.7 needs to be reckoned with. The g-forces could cause a nose bleed if you aren't careful.:D Not recommending you do it all the time but when you have to it doesn't hurt a thing.

For normal driving, 2.7 power is fine and gives decent fuel economy with reasonable throttle input. When merging onto freeways, you gotta put the hammer down and give it time to spin up the RPM, but once there it goes pretty good. Mine goes over 60 in 2nd gear (automatic). So I think it is a good balance between power and efficiency, in a bulletproof and quiet package. Love it.

I only did it once but my 2004 2.7 with the 5-speed has been to 100mph in 4th gear.

I installed an LCE header and it makes a huge in driveability! It's well worth the trouble to change the header out, there are several header brands, all seem to be better than the stock unit!

Drive how you like, obey the traffic laws and don’t worry about the clowns around you. It doesn’t hurt to put an NRA/concealed carry sticker on your back window.
I drive for gas mileage, everyone else can fuck off.

My 2012 Tacoma 2.7L 5 speed manual is a dog. I knew that when I drove it off the lot new. Never been over 80mph, and I try not to pass vehicles on a two lane road unless I have plenty of space! I live in a rural area and don't need highway speeds @ 75mph unless I'm traveling. But it gets me up to speed, but not as quick as I'd like at times. Still, wonderful reliable vehicle that I'll keep for years to come hopefully.

Something I've only done once. My 2.7 RC 4X4 will go over 100 mph in fourth gear. Those that think the 2.7 is under powered just need to accept the increased engine wear by revving the shit out of it over 4000 RPM and realize they aren't going to get 500,000 miles out of it if they use it for what it was designed for which was carrying/pulling loads within it's GVWR and revving it to get the job done. It isn't a Ferrari and never will be. But it'll get you and you're "load" wherever you want to take it for a long time. Just rev it. That's what it was designed for.

If it won't pull what it's rated for at 3000+ rpm in your circumstances then it's time to step up to a bigger truck.

P.S. The real power comes on right around 4000rpm. At least in my Gen 1 2.7.

    More throttle is more fun!

With the 2.7 I can hit the gas harder, more often, and enjoy it longer.

What more could I ask for?
