    I get crappy mileage. Since Feb, I've only gotten 20+ mpg 5 times. I'm averaging 19.5 mpg. Even with removing the secondary filter and an AFE Pro Dry-S drop-in my mileage hasn't improved. ~75% of my normal driving mileage is freeway cruising at 85 on the speedo, so it's actually closer to 80 in reality.

    The speed limit in NM is 75 mph. I'm not going to do under the speed limit. Also, it takes an hour to get from the town I live in to the nearest city doing 80 mph.

    I think there maybe a bigger problem though because it seems to me that my truck is fairly gutless lately trying to climb hills, and it wasn't when I first got it.

    My worst tank so far after 3200 miles is 24.5 MPG. My best has been 27.5 Since removing the secondary air filter and installing the AFE ProDryS drop in, the best has been 25.5. I have not been real impressed with the AFE. But it may be the heavier weight 5W-30 Valvoline Synpower oil that went in at about the same time. How do other 4-cyl owners feel about their AFE filter? My truck seem to do as good or better in mixed urban freeway driving as it does on the open road. Head winds and running 70-75 MPH seem to hurt mileage. Fortunantly 90% of my driving is local.

    Back to your original question ... I'm an easy driver with about 65K miles, 2.7, 5-speed, reg cab, 31in BFG Long Trail, and 4.10s yields about 23 mpg ave on 80-90% highway driving with altitude changes from 2500 to 5500 ft. Also drive a few miles of dirt road daily. Mileage drops as much as 2 mpg in winter due to increased ethanol. In my instance, a camper shell does not seem to make much difference in fuel economy.

    I'm running at about 21mpg in town, and around 24mpg on highway average in a v6. seeing your guys mileage made me happy I bought the v6.

    I just went over 30,000mi and I see a noticable improvement in my mileage on the highway maybe 2 to 3 miles per gallon.

    I have the same truck in 1 2008,with a 5 speed. Just broke 4,000 miles, averaging 24.7 mpg so far. I shift at 2K, inflate the tires to 35 psi (they actually came that way from the dealer), drive 65 mph, and coast to stop lights rather than power in.

    I'm happy with the mileage, but I have a personal goal of getting 30 mpg on at least one tank a year. So far the best is 27 mpg on a tank.

    I watched closely today on the way home and in city traffic accelerating to 35 miles an hour my truck shifted by 1800 rpm. in each gear. I am getting just under 18 in the city, On the highway my last trip I reached a personal best of 22.5. This was a little over 70 on the highway with the a/c and I did not use the cruise control. However all things evened out the previous tank averaged 14 mpg.

    Hpe we are all on the same page as in miles per US. gallon vrs Klicks per gallon
    in usa we use miles and the rest of the world use kilometers.
    Maybe that could be somethinkg in which type pf gallon also US or other ????

    I dunno, It's No secret. I just baby the crap out of it, and I never use my brakes unless I absolutely have to, And I keep my rpm's as low as possible, I never speed, and I use neutral a lot. I never Idle my truck, and In the summer, there is no warm-up time. nope, that's Miles per US gallon. Driving on the highway, when I am accelerating I get about 20L per 100km, and cruising i range from 6L to 12L per 100km, averaging around 9Lper 100km when I am Cruising. And 0L per 100km when braking or slowing down (engine uses no fuel when down shifting) On a full trip (Accel, cruise, and decel) I get about 10.5L per 100km average (approx 22.5mpg) that depends on how far I go too, The farther I go without stopping, the better mileage I get. I bet that is the difference actually. To drive to the nearest town around here, I'm looking at at least an hour with no stop signs or traffic lights at all. Fort nelson is a four hour drive with no interruptions at all.

    my 98 I4 5spd. 240,000 miles consistently gets about 30 mpg except in the winter when I get about 26 and I drive about 75% city 25% highway.

    I didnt think so but it is a 4X4 acess cab and it was all in town with AC on as it has been steady upper 90s here.
    I also swapped the stock tires for little wider and a little taller tires
    with running .

    On my 08 Taco 2.7L, AT, 15 inch wheels AFE filter and no secondary filter. I have 3000 miles on od. I'm getting about 22-23 in town driving, It's the short trips that kill you with gas mileage. But here are a few things I do to help.
    1. Keep my tires inflated to 35psi.
    2. Trying to keep under 2000 rpm.
    3. This is a biggie. If I drive at 65 mph I get up to 32 mpg on my scanguage. But at 65 i'm only doing 63mpg according to my scanguage and GPS.
    4. If I come to a big down hill I shift into neutral foot off the gas and coast. It really racks up the MPG on the scanguage.

    Things left to do are Mobil 1. and maybe a new muffler. Run with 1/2 a tank full of gas.

    I've made a hi-way trip once to San Antonio via US281. Lots of hills but I managed to get 24mpg.

    I do some sitting in traffic 7 days every two weeks. But it's going to get worst when school starts in a few weeks.

    Anyway mt Taco is getting almost twice the milage my 5.4L Ford was getting. My Truck payment is $300 a month and with what I've saving in gas vs the Ford it's really only $200 a month. I'm cheap and a $200 a month truck payment is just fine with me..

    Ladies and gents:

    How fast you drive has a pretty significant impact on fuel economy. Why? Because the amount of power your engine has to produce to overcome wind resistance varies by the cube of the speed. So going from 55 to 70 increases speed by about 26 percent but it doubles the amount of power that's required, and going from 55 to 80 increases the speed by 45 percent bit amount of power required increases by a little over three times.

    My "other" car is a 1991 Ford Probe. Normally I get around 28 MPG no matter what the mix of city/highway driving. Two weeks ago I filled it up just before making the climb from Auburn California (elev 1000 feet) to Tahoe City. 350 miles later, I've averaged in the low 30s by keeping the speed down and using cruise control.

    I can't tell you anything about our Tacoma yet because we literally drove it to Tahoe City from Reno and parked it last Saturday.

    Drive fast - spend money. Drive slower - save money.

    None!
    I4 4x4 manual with access cab. First fillup yesterday was a half tank of gas for just under 300 miles. 25.7 MPG for mostly highway driving at 50-70 MPH.

    We're really pleased with our new truck
