Has anyone put straight pipes- no muffler- on their 2.4L or 2.7L? how does it sound and would you recommend it? i have a 2001 2.4L with a magnaflow on there right now but its just mediocre sounding...

i chopped mine off with a sawzall, sounds like a ricer with a tin can for a muffler.
    now i have a flowmaster

i honestly have no clue.... but they suck!
you should look into a spintech muffler.
mufflers like flow master, and magna flow, actually decrease power sometimes.

Straight pipes on 4cyl suck. We do not have a lumpy cam, and are missing 4 cylinders for that kind of stuff.
Our engines were tuned to run with stock exhaust and intake.

agreed i have straight pipe on my 06, its cool if u dont want to sound cool and just want to turn heads. but not practical my truck idles at 2800 on a cold start for about 5 min , and wakes all my neighbors up. i just recently put a cheap DC fart can on it just to get some more back pressure and it sounds ridiculous. i regret cutting out my stock muffler and wish i never thru it out. i would say best is keep stock or maybe a high flow just for performance but do not, do ur exhaust for sound, look into performance. plus straight pipe at 75 miles and hour sounds like ur flying a Cessna.
