    • Ok folks, this is for the 4 cylinder owners tacomas witht the 2TR-FE engine code......this is from toyotas website......Only Toyota vehicles in which 0w-20 synthetic oil is required (except for the 2TR-FE and 3UR-FBE Engines*) have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000-miles/12-months. (However, you should continue to check the oil level regularly and top off if needed. That will help your engine get the full benefit of synthetic oil.)

    • In the case of vehicles with 10,000 mile oil change intervals, the 5,000 mile service interval has not been eliminated. The traditional 5,000 mile maintenance procedures (such as tire rotation) will continue to be required, and the fluid levels (such as brake fluid) will need to be checked and adjusted at this time.

    • If the vehicle operation meets the standard criteria for "Special Operating Conditions" such as: driving off-road, on dirt roads, towing a trailer, making repeated short trips under 32˚ F, or extensive idling; the engine oil must be replaced at 5,000 mile intervals, regardless of what type of oil is used.

*The 2TR-FE (4Runner / Tacoma) and the 3UR-FBE (Flex Fuel Tundra / Sequoia) are the exceptions to this new change interval program; these engines have not been approved for the 10,000 mile interval at this time. A 5,000-mile/6-month oil change interval is still required for these vehicles. Also, the Flex Fuel 3UR-FBE requires a 2,500 mile interval when operated on E85.

I'm calm man, just poking around toyotas website and found this was all. I think I am going to show that to the dealer when I go to get my service and tell them I'd like the oil changed per Toyotas recommendation of my 2TR-FE motor.. might as well get 5 oil changes out of the maintenance package instead of 2....

That cut and paste in the first post is from Toyota.com website, so I don't know man.....I think I'd take their word before a dealer as "fact".

My funcar has a 15k interval. Did a Blackstone analysis at nearly 8k and the results made me a believer. Just my experience, do your own test of course.

I would re-post the links plus all of the other post or so on the ten million threads made on oil but I don't think it would help from your viewpoint, even with facts. Bottom line, the owners manual tells you 10000 unless you have special adverse circumstances. It's 2016, things are better refined and machined. It's your truck, do what you want.

Yes but which engine are you referencing? 4cly I think? I don't know the specs for the 4 cyl, so I'd say go with what Toyota says there vs dealer. 6 cyl is 10k and seems in accordance to current manufacturing and oil technology.

According to Toyota,... you are 5k miles over the limit, if you have a 2TR-FE .

    FWIW ... I DIY--changed my oil @ 1,000 & 3,500 & 6,500 and will change it again at about 10,000 miles (at about 8,000 now).

Each time the oil was pretty dark ... did each change with Mobile One Full Synthetic (0-20) per Toyota spec and Toyota OEM filter cartridge ......... (replaced plastic oil filer cover with Toyota OEM aluminum oil filter cover & love it)

Most of my driving is: mixed highway & city driving.

Before I get the speech that ... "I am wasting my time & money" ... I have NEVER seen engine damage from changing the oil too much ... :)

I have no doubt some synthetics could go 10k plus for sure, like I said, it just seems personal preference and I think 5k will do it for me.

If you've already made up your mind that you are going to pay any attention to the lab test, unless it meets your short OCI expectation, why waste your money? You're already sucked into the old wives tales of 'it must be this way because the ads say so'.

Mine come up in the 12-15k range. I just use 10k because it's easy. But I also know I have some head room if I can't get to a change right on the dot.

Since I didn't buy new, the only time my truck will see the dealer is for recall work, so I don't really care what the dealer says. Or too much what Toyota says either. Since their guidelines are lawyer driven conservative (and rightfully so for warranty purposes), not vehicle tested specific.

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
My dealer kept bugging me to make an appointment like clock work at 5000mi. I guess the did the math and would call me it seemed like a week shy of me hitting 5000mi
