This reminded me of a starting problem I had shortly after I got the truck. On one occasion, while on an out-of-town off-road trip, it wouldn't start (actually, it didn't even crank). After some tinkering, it finally started and didn't happen again on that trip. As soon as I got home, I replaced the starter relay (from a pick/pull yard) and it hasn't happened since. Now, I carry a spare. Cheap fix, in that case.

I did some reserch and I'm thinking maybe fuel pressure regulator, dose that make sense to anyone else? from my understanding if it isn't holding enough pressure to keep it primed it won't start cold but should have no problem starting warm. it's kinda like the choking a carborated vehicle from my understanding.

again, have you had the fuel pressure actually checked yet...

get that done first, throwing parts at the problem is not the right way to go about this...

I don't have the tools to check my fuel pressure so I'm just going off what sounds like a good solution

So I just figured out that these trucks have electronic distribution not cap and rotor so since everyday it throws the missfire cylinder 4 code or random missfire I figured I would try the coil that controls cylinder 1 and 4 nothing changed. I'm really at a loss where would I go for a fuel pressure test?

how much have you spent in parts so far?

You probably could have gone to a good auto repair shop and for the same money had a diagnostic and know your problem...blindly throwing parts at it is not the answer, although, if you throw enough parts at it, eventually you will solve it, LOL..

Need a list of all parts you have replaced so I can rule some stuff out.Engine is a 2TR-FE ?

There is a fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure pulsation dampner I would suspect.Although I don't know what the 2nd ones purpose is yet I wouldn't rule it out.A leaking injector could also cause this problem. With the misfire codes on that one hole it would be a suspect in the leaking injector theory.Without being hands on it is hard to tell.Swap the injectors and see if the code moves from to the cylinder it's switched to.If so then replace that injector and restart your hard start diagnostics. If not check your wiring for the hole with the code if it stays the same after the swap.

So when the engine is cold, the only way to start it, is by pushing and popping the clutch? That is pretty strange.

Have you visually checked for a healthy spark when trying to start it?

So my parts list so far is fuel pressure regulator, plugs, wires, fuel filter and coil packs. And I know throwing parts at it is the wrong thing to do but at 150k miles plugs wires and fuel filter are a good thing to change especially since I have no plans of selling the truck. The fuel pressure regulator and coil packs were Unneeded but I was able to return the coil packs. I have no way to test the fuel pressure and no idea how to.

And swapping fuel injectors is a good idea I never thought of that. I did check for spark when I did the plugs and wires but at the same time it was in bright light and I was the one turning the key I will try again tomorrow.
