Hello in the market for a 2000-2004 Taco, and I have come across a few 4 cylinders. My question is how reliable are the 4 cylinders? I'd like to push another 100,000 plus miles out of them. Most I've seen are in the 150,000-low 200's mileage range. I do not work full-time in construction, yet I do do some remolding on the side as well as just my own projects. This leads to my next 2 questions. Is the 4 cylinder enough for having a full load in the back, maybe once a week? Is the bed big enough to slide in 4 x 8 sheetrock on the wells (with the help of some 2 x 4's to support them from sagging of course)? thanks, Bryan

about reliability, both the v6 and the 4 cylinders are bulletproof engines. The secret, though, is maintenance.

There's even a dude on here that had 988,000 miles on his 4cyl

but Toyota apparently gave him a brand new truck

    500,000+ miles V6

There is also a bunch of high mileage threads, like this one

As I said, the secret is maintenance.

If you want to haul or tow heavy stuff, you're better going with a V6. If it is from time to time, the 4 cyl can do the job.

4x8 panels won't fit between the fender wells, but that has nothing to do with being 4cyl

The 1st Generation will carry 1500-1700 lbs and the bed is wide enough to take a 4 x 8 piece of sheetrock,
But of course the 8' length will extend over the tailgate.
You can still find some with less than 100k miles but they are getting over $10,000 for them.
