Hey all! I don't know where else to ask this but I have a 2015 4 Cylinder.

I've got bilstein 5100 fronts and OME Heavy Duty Leaf springs and Toyotec in the rear.

Of course, it sucks at acceleration but when I'm on the highway, I'm nowhere close to touching 5th or 6th gear. It's an automatic so maybe I'm just not noticing it but everytime I'm cruising in 4th and it starts to slow down up any slope then downshifts to 3rd.

Is this really hard on my drive train? What's the consequences? Considering thinking about ditching it in these high price times for a v6 but it wouldn't have the setup I do now.

    I believe you have a 4-speed transmission like my 2012 4 cylinder.

    You don't have a 6 spd. You have a 4 speed.

The 2.7L seems happy to rev. When I still had a auto, I let it ring in 3rd all the time, especially up large hills. Been doing it for 135k miles and it still runs like the day I bought it.

    Huh?

No 4 banger auto had a 5 or 6 speed in 2015. V6 gets you worse mileage and means you'll be buying a new or used vehicle in one of the most expensive times to be purchasing a new or used vehicle.

My advice is to regear it.
I believe the the 2.7 came with 4.10 gears.
So you probably want 4.56 or 4.88.

I’m sure the 4cyl guys can help you out more than I can.

My 4 banger dee-light has 4:30 gears and a 4 speed ( very similar to the 4 speed in my 3rd gen 4runner)

There is a dedicated 4 cylinder section on the site, it doesn't get a ton of traffic and most of the questions are : how can I get more power? Why does my truck run badly with 33" tires and a ton of 'mall rated' armor ?

IMO, the 4 banger is barley adequate when the truck is kept stock and not used as a full time work truck.

    You’ll never shift to 5 or 6th since it’s a 4spd auto.

Don't beat yourself up over this. We have all been there: Trust me.

Think about it this way: By asking the question, you just found out and confirmed your transmission is operating perfectly! Celebrate with your favorite beverage!

The 2016 has a 6 speed so your just 1 year off. And wit autos (why they suck) you kinda don’t know what gear you are in at higher speeds. I own a 2013 auto and sometimes wonder if I’m in 3rd or 4th. Ready to go back to a manual for good.

Tacomas suck on the highway in general.

Oddly enough, higher revs is better than lower.

    Let it sing!
