There is something akin to the old two-stroke bikes (though not necessarily for the same reason), in how the power suddenly appears out of nowhere. It isn’t a downshift. It’s like suddenly the engine is allowed more air or more fuel or both in a certain RPM range. Up to that point it is mostly a sluggish affair......then pow.....the 3.5 goes beast mode.

Just my observations. I like it, but think it is a little strange just how aggressively the power comes on.

Serious. Even tho I am drinking. When the engine has a demand (air+fuel) that is greater than the pseudo adkinson can provide, it switches. That's the only explanation for the power band RM 250 Suzuki comparison lol.

Dont mind reving the engine, with the MT it feels more like around 3k rpm when the powerband kicks in IME.

My last vehicle was a jeep with a 3.6l Pentastar V6 and weighed about the same as my Tacoma. I much prefer the Toyota engine.

Make me cringe as I visibly watch my gas gauge go down every time I floor it.

Good point. It reminds me of my 2 stroke nitro rc cars. They putt around until you give em 1/2 throttle and above.

I love my truck but i hate being in higher RPMs for power. Had a diesel prior so I’m not used to the needle seeing 3k in a street car/truck. My Gt-r can play around in the higher revs, my truck and I hang in the “under 3k” club. .

1st,2nd and 3rd gear will go until you hit 7k at close to 100 mph, shift to 4th when you hit about 110 it stops puling.... I am heavy as well with 265/75/16's and I have installed the HyperTech module so my speedo is closer to correct as well as my odometer.

If memory serves me the old 3.4 made around 190 HP, how are you at 120 extra on the current truck?

I haven't actually drag raced it,but I did try a couple launches and ran it until it quit pulling to see what numbers I could get with the Torque app. It falls on it's face trying to launch it traditionally.

This is a screenshot I got when I was focusing on HP numbers, not the best time. The best time was closer to 14 seconds in the 1/4.

    unnamed.jpg

The power bump we feel is not the VVT or Atkinsons cycling to full ottto, the bump is the variable length intake runners opening up. Mat @OVTune is working on modifying this so that it happens sooner rather than later. The closest I can describe the bump would be like the old Dodge/Chrysler 4bbls with the vacuum secondaries opening up...or my Yamaha Vmax when the Vboost kicks in....:D

Motortrend did a 0-60 @ 7.1sec and quarter mile @ 15.4sec at 91.2mph with an 4x4 OR automatic, so I'd guess a 2.5-2.7 60' is right on the money :burnrubber:
