OP: How are you planning to use the truck? If you have any thoughts of taking the truck off road a $850.00 3 inch lift is a waste of money. Re think the direction you are taking.

Ok so since I’m very hardheaded and I really like the looks of a 2.5 to 4 inch lift, which lift do you guys recommend for under $1500?

Listen, if you plan to do serious off roading then yes get a suspension lift. If you are doing it simply for looks with an occasional stroll on a dirt road, then there is nothing wrong with a leveling/lift kit. I am running 285/70/R17's on a Pro Comp Nitro 3/1 leveling/lift kit. They also did the differential drop that come with the kit. All they had to do is take the mud flaps off. No new UCA's or control arms were needed. As far as power loss running these tires, I don't feel like I lost anything. Yes you see a drop in MPG's. The truck runs and looks fantastic.

Hey bud, I get that you want a good
Lift for cheap. Why not go with billistein 5100’s all the way around and add a leaf in the back? That can be cranked to 2+ inches easily. With the recommendation of control arms for anything over 2 inches. This link has the entire kit you are looking for, with alll hardware and the extended brake lines for around 1600 bucks.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p402/Coil/Bilstein_5100_Kit_w/_Dakars_(HS16BK-1-Dakar).html

Spacers are fine if you don’t care about the long term health of your suspension/vehicle at the heights you are talking about (3” to 4”). Just my 2 cents.

@Neo177 thank you for going straight to the point! I think that’s the route I’m going to take. I thought that the rough country lift was a great deal but I’ve been seen mixed opinions about it on YouTube, so I think the leveling kit is the way to go sinse I don’t think I’m going to be doing any hardcore wheeling with my new truck , at least not for now lol

I was looking at the tire size calculator and that 255 80 17 (33x10x16) looks ideal.....is that what you're running?
I'd love to go to that size but that's a huge jump from the stock size, did you have to adjust the steering stops?

I would think that both too tall or too wide would cause rubbing.

I had 33x10.5 on the stock rims on my old pathfinder and there was no way they would fit w/o a lift. The stock rims were great because the tire stuffed nicely into the wheel well

The Taco stock tire is 30.6 and the 255/80 is a 32.

@helix66 im looking into doing a lift, that’s why this debate started. Also going to change wheels because I don’t like the stock ones at all

Your 2018 off-road is already well set up for some someday off road adventures. As noted above anything over 2.5" fucks up a lot of things. The wrong 4" lift without additional mods will lead to off road .disasters. Then again if it's just for looks...

Spend the time and research your suspension in this sub forum. Search specifically in that subforum only. There so much info there it’s crazy.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/suspension.18/

IMO stay with OME, Bilstein, icon, fox, king.
Toytec and Dobinson is also an option. I would stay within those brands.

With a 1500 budget obviously coilovers are out of the question....Its hard to achieve the look/stance, off and on road performance at that budget. At that budget your looking at around 2-2.5” lift that can offer good all around performance.

these tacoma 4x4s already have WAY bigger wheels than the size truck would otherwise call for. hell, my TRD Off Road has just about the same size wheels as my F250 longbed.
