4Runner or Minivan?

Like many folks, go with the Sienna or Oddysey. Consider though if you've got boys, around the 8-15 age, you may want to take them camping or off-roading or trailing or whatever there is to do and then you can get your taco back and then keep the big family van for group trips or something.

    But yeah, get fixed already!

Get a Sienna SE. I would get one, if I actually had kids. Hell, I would get one to tote my three dogs around... Haha. My family has had first and second generation Siennas...good stuff.

Get the van and go buy yourself an old 4 runner. The simply will make life easier, and easier with 4 kids is worthy of pursuing.

Thank you! Geez, I was kinda starting to think I was the only one heavily pushing the sweet version of the Sienna. And I'm 22!

Siennas and Odysseys are good vehicles, start savin your pennies for an older Taco maybe, but with four kids, you're gonna need a lot of pennies!

    I vote neither!

Well, that's cuz I don't have kids. The answer is... depends. I mean, I don't know your income, but don't minivans get better gas mileage than regular vans? And hybrids better than minivans? Don't forget to factor in gas prices, insurance costs, etc...

And stop procreating! (jeez, vasectomies are free at NMCSD). :D

We have a Sienna and it is awesome. There is really no comparison between an SUV and Minivan when it comes to using the 3rd row seats. The access to the 3rd row is just way easier. The low floor makes it easier for the kids to get in, and our dogs love being able to lie in the floor between the middle seats on trips.

Just do it, but make the wife daily drive it.

It's just a minivan. Get a Dodge Carivan for a lot less than the Sienna and let's face it ..... neither one of them is cool. The Carivan had lots of room in them and dodge has been making them forever!! Sounds like your gonna need the extra money for other stuff.

    Gratz!!!

Just because they've been making them forever doesn't mean they're worth shit. Those things are the most shoddy built quality vehicle I have ever been around. My parents bought an odyssey in 2002 and sold it this year with 120,000 on it for just under $10K and it still ran perfectly. It is worth spending the money that has to get your entire life (wife, kids, pets) from A to B. If you're going to skimp on anything, skimp on your truck. Not the family hauler.

    A few bolts are different.
As much as I love the new 4Runner, Honda has it going on with the new Odyssey. The touring model is a spaceship full of kid-friendly gadgets to keep 4 kids happy.

Yeah the new one looks pretty cool for what it is. I also like the SE edition Sienna. Although the odyssey has a better ride. The Sienna rides like a crown vic (floats rather than feeling in control)

Proactively trade the Tacoma in for a Porsche 911. Then you'll have to tell her to trade in her Accord because you can't fit a baby seat in the Porsche.

I've had them all... Regular cab, then bought extra cab when first kid came along...it was pain to deal with baby seats. Traded the extra cab for a 4 Runner...was OK with one kid. When the second came along we started running out of room for the stuff. And it always seemed to be the coldest day of the year when I had to put the cartop carrier on the rack! So in late 99 we bit the bullet and bought a 2000 Sienna (I kept my wifes Camry as my daily commuter). We put over 120k on that van all over east coast and even twoing our pop-up camper. In 2005 we bought another Sienna. (and along the way I traded the camry (with 135k) and I got a couple more trucks) But nothin beats those Siennas for transporting kids and stuff. I really like it on a long trip. Definately opt for the DVD for the kids. Keeps them quiet for hours! We now haul two teenagers, the 60# dog and all the stuff for week long stays with no problem and don't need the cartop carrier.

If you can afford the upgrade.... go with the three automatic doors. My sister has one of those and it's great for loading all her little ones.
