    I understand that, but there are several factors involved as well.

    One thing being, just cause they said its that part number does not mean thats actually the item you received. Happens all the time.

    That being said physics dont lie (part numbers do all the time), those shocks are too long for your application.

    Now dont quote me on this, but from what i understand you should only have about a 26" long shock when extended. With that setup anyways. There are probably others that know better here and can step in.

    Also since some of your lift is from a block it doesnt count towards increased travel. So suspension wise you have a 2 to 2-1/2" lift alone? That should be about a 25" shock length if my research is right. The block lift cant be included for total uptravel as it has no effect on how the leaf hits the bump stop. But it is included for the shock extension id think.

    Again im no expert on this, but something is off.....i might not have the correct answer, but you should look further into it rather than just a relocation.

    So what's the benefit of doing a shock relocation in the first place? Would a longer shock not allow more travel both ways? The reason I'm pushing for this is I have a very good fabricator that owes me some favors. I'll pay very little for the work.

    This is what I'd do:

    1) Do the Ford relocation mount mod
    2) Measure for the correct shock length
    3) Since you're worked up about having this done before your trip, adjust the shock length by using spacers (this is a band aid and should not be permanent)
    4) Get a custom Alcan setup to eliminate blocks and give you the ride height you want.
    5) Install correct shock length as stated several times above.

    Edit: Actually doing the relocation mod probably won't work for the shock you have using extensions.

    By relocating the shock mount it allows you to put a longer shock in and use it to its full potential. Should put you in the middle of the 12" stroke or whatever the correct shock length should be

    Given your geographical location i would be personally against cutting and welding anything to your frame. But thats a totally different subject.

    And yes as Rusty15Tacoma has said, there are benifits to be had with a relocation, but you are not going to see them with your current leaf and block setup. All it will do is allow you to run those shocks without crushing them.

    I have rust I'm fighting off either way. There's nothing other than spraying every year that can be done. As for the block it was just to be able to run these shocks as they came with them. I will eventually get a leaf pack, most likely Dakar but I will look into the Alcan. The sumos I will run no matter what as they by themselves will hold quite a bit of weight. The 5100's are for 2" lift. I really do appreciate all the input and comments. As you guys can tell mechanical work is very new to me but I find it satisfying.

    If you still have the 5100s id say throw those back on for your trip in a couple days till its all sorted out. While they may be for only a 2" lift they will still fit and not get crushed.

    You're good. I couldn't tell and was trying to see if your leaf pack was setup right

    Go flex out the rear and measure Between shock mounts. Then measure between shock mounts at ride height. Subtract distance between bump stops from ride height distance between shock mounts. Post results.

    Full droop with the blocks 27 1/2. So by themselves 25 1/2. I didn't get a chance to do full compression with a jack. I did however go to a construction site and back that ass up. I flexed one side to full compression (other wheel barely on the ground) and came to 2" of the shaft of the shock visible. Those sumos hold their own. I'm going to try the trip with my current set up (+ hopefully newly relocated shock mounts) and bring my 5100's with me just in case. I'll post results here.
