There are probably a few different ways but whats the best way to fully compress once shock is removed?

Late to the party but how much were those shocks I need longer shocks for my truck.. also ditch the blocks do a shackle flip toss on a 1" xj shackle and voila lots of room for long shocks.

Talked to a fabricator getting mounts made next week. Can someone point me in the right direction with leafs now? I'm looking to keep the 3 1/2-4" lift in the rear.

Would I not need to get the extra leaf to gain the extra 1/2 inch?

Well I think the dakars give 2.5-3 inch and the shackle flips give a bit more so I'm thinking. Need someone else to chime in though.

You should really do more research before buying shocks (been here, done this). Different companies utilize different tactics for lifting the rear of a truck. Seems you already had the lift and then added the rear shocks. A quick measuring could have saved you right there.

It took me 30 seconds to figure out that the BDS 4" lift uses a 4" lift block for the rear. The "BDS 4" lift" Fox shocks you have are sized to be used with those blocks. Any shorter on the block, you bottom the shock first. You still would only have 4" up travel but it would be a "safe" 4" of travel that bottoms on the bump stop.

On another note, you have closer to 6" rear lift. Your shocks collapsed length plus available travel equals 17.5" + 4" + (0.5" shock shaft bump stop) = 22" shock length. My truck sits at 22" shock length with a 6" lift. I use Bilstein 5100 B110 rear shocks and i have timbren bump stops that limit me to right at 5.5" up travel.

Got back from my off road trip. I went very gingerly entering the trail. I brought an entire mechanic set to be able to swap out rear shocks if need be. No need. I wheeled some of the most fucked up trails I've been on. No issues with suspension. On the way in and out I was loaded to the tits. I'd say about 600-700 pounds on the truck. I'm still going to eventually get a leaf pack but for now shit works well. I'll update once in a while. Sumo supersprings rock.

Can second that the rear suspension didn't slow you down.

only a matter of time till you bust a shock from using it as a bumpstop.

How much compression is ok on a shock?

You should NEVER use a shock as a bumpstop. Always leave a little margin of error. That is, account for max bumpstop compression then make sure the compressed length of the shock is say 1/2-3/4in shorter than that.
