ya if you're used to 4x4 from the days of mechanical 4x4 the newer taco is a bit annoying imo, check manual. i remember the 1st time i put mine in 4lo, i was sitting there on a frozen lake full of deep snow thinking wtf is this pos that just won't stop beeping at me!

4LO is annoying for me as well, but if you come to a complete stop, nuetral and hit it, it works almost every time. I rarely get it to work while still rolling. Also, make sure you're straight and not in a turn.

    your 4wd actuator is shot

had the same issue...many have had the issue

depending on how savvy you are, you can rebuild them...but best bet is to replace with a new one...sometimes you can get away with just cleaning the contact points, but most of the time they need to be replaced.

    sucks man

He admitted that he doesn't know the process for switching it into 4 lo, how can you make this diagnosis without any evidence or amplifying information on his technique?

i really hope it's only a case of not knowing how to put it in 4lo properly and things are ok...but based on that statement, signs point to a bad actuator

who knows...i'm just saying what it sounds like from my experience...but i am no expert, so take it for what it is, just my opinion

just because a majority of these trucks go a while without major issues, doesn't mean they all were created equal...could be something as simple as a loose wire on the actuator?

but if he is doing the steps right, it engages in 4lo but beeps at him, then he has to turn the truck off to disengage...sounds just like my truck when my actuator went..it works, but the truck is not able to tell that it is in 4lo, so it cannot disengage because it doesn't think it's in 4lo..
