I was just like you Big, debating between the V6 or the 4cyl, but in a Access cab 4x4. 2009 is the first model year for the 4cylinder 4x4 in Canada, so I was excited that I could get a Access Cab 4x4 for a decent price compared to the V6 model. And I figured the fuel savings would be good too! Since these trucks are rare here in Canada they have excellent resale value. Mine should be ready this week, so I will let you know if I made the right choice with the 4 cylinder. I too have a HOnda Rincon ATV that I will be hauling or towing. Keep you posted!

Still gathering info to make a decision... I definitly need 4WD/TRD off road, would prefer the access cab with the long bed, I like automatic but I could deal with standard. I'm not even sure if all of the above is available in 4 cyl. Haven't gotten that far yet. I do plan on test driving both.

Another thing that I would want is to add on a "remote starter". I live at a 3rd floor apt and it's very convenient to be able to start the truck from my apt during the winter. I doubt if I could use a remote starter with the standard. Do you have to push the clutch in to start a standard Tacoma?

I was looking at the new Nissan Frontier Pro 4X online yesterday and it looks to be a really nice truck but the options packages are so expensive, it's ridiculous. You can't get 4wd in 4 cycle either. It has some advantages over the Tacoma but so does the Tacoma over the Frontier. Leaning more towards the Tacoma because of their reliability reputation, gas mileage and customer satisfaction.

    Time to start test driving.
Let us know how it goes.

The Nissans are nicely optioned for a bit less money. They have good solid frames and chasis, good rear axles, powerful 4.0L V6, and they look good. I just fund them to feel cheaply put together, especially the interior. Pretty bland too. And they feel a lot heavier than the Tacomas. But it is a truck. I love my new 4 cylinder so far, but if you are going to go with a V6, go for the Toyota. They feel quicker than the V6 Frontriers Ive driven, even though the Frontiers have more HP on paper.

-TRD OR is only avail in the V6 trucks for '05+, and the 4cyl 4x4s are only avail with a manual.
-yea, gotta push in the clutch or hit the "clutch start cancel" button.
-i'd go with the Tacoma but i think any response to that will be a little biased here:rolleyes:

Can you ever be too thin, too smart, too rich or have too much horsepower? V6 very smart, good power, good mileage if you keep your foot out of it.

4cyliner 2.7 5spd 4x4. It pulls my 2600lb boat OK, (not as good as a 6 would, but effective none the less)

You will not even know that 4wheeleer is back there!

so i took a lil 4cyl pre-runner for a test drive. Eh it lacks power, but it was a fun truck none the less. I mean i went petal to the metal and it took a while to get up to speed but it was still fun. So i think that is what i willl be getting
