I’d be worried about the 12v plug. I had one of those compressors and the plug itself got so hot I branded my hand unplugging. You will start a fire in your truck IMHO

Thanks for the heads up. Really hoping that the fuse dies before that but I’ll keep an eye on that until I swap up to a new one!

Also, a quick thank you to everyone here for the info and, as a bonus, helping me get my post/message count up so I can go to the BST forums as well

I made my own. Pretty fun to do. You'll see a few variations including mine in this thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/shellshocks-diy-inflator-deflator.613122/

For compressors, the Viair ones are pretty affordable and flow quite nicely.

BTW, I would recommend against a four tire inflator because it can be an octopus. Made one for a friend and didn't enjoy coiling it up. Two tire inflators seem to be the perfect balance for me, esp with the sweet chucks that @Shellshock recommended.

Had a cheap cigarette lighter plug compressor in our 90 Rodeo, taking a 30X9.50X15 tire from 0 psi to 32 PSI, burned a wire out going to the rear cigarette lighter plug at about 25 psi. Never did figure out where it melted the wires at, but it blew the fuse and blew the replacement fuse the second I put it in after that. When we got home from the trip I cut the plug off and stuck decent alligator clips on it. Still works great, just slow, real slow.

I hacked together a CO2 system a short while later using an aluminum 20lb CO2 tank.

Any thoughts around the room about under seat / under hood mounting vs. Carrying a portable?
Looks like there’s a solid mix on this thread, so figured I’d ask.
I don’t anticipate ever been critically space limited, so inclined to go portable, but have been investigating mounting a compressor under the passenger side seat as a long term solution worth the squeeze.
Just looking for any data points / lessons learned from people doing either

Aren't Vlair compressors made in China in the same factory at the Harbor Freight portable compressors?

This is what I have on my truck. Paired with an ARB twin compressor, this works like a dream!
