okay so my 4 wheel drive isnt working and i cant figure out why. it shifts into 4 low and 4 high and i can feel the difference in the gearing and everything (its a manual transfer case if u wanna know) but the front tires arent spinning. my friend mentioned that some trucks use vaccum to engage it so i checked it out at school in auto and i do have what looks like to be some sort of vaccum mechanism. it looks like a diaphragm and two vaccum hoses but neither hoses lead to the engine so i dont know how this is supposed to work. if anyone has a clue of whats wrong, then please help me. my teacher said the diaphragm could possibly be torn but i dont wanna take it apart and find out its not. i'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

    ..stay tuned
Op. I had problem with my 4x4 not working too. Does your four wheel green light in the dash light up? If so, it's probably working. That light that comes on is "real" as the sensor only activates if it's engaged. The four wheel is vacuum actuated and u can find the 2 vsv's in the driver side panel by the battery and evap system. Just follow the vac lines from the actuator and up. Slip the hoses off and reverse them. Engage and disengage the four wheel. Swap hoses back. This is free and takes 5 minutes

Are the hubs manual on your truck? Are you in neutral when you shift from 2WD to 4HI? You don't have to be in neutral, I think you can select 4HI below 25mph? Maybe even faster, it's in your owners manual. Try Selecting 4WD at different speeds and in neutral. How do you know the front wheels aren't spinning? Unless you've stuck the truck in 2WD and selecting 4WD doesn't help, how can you be sure? As 96Taco mentions, if the green dash indicator is on and you're not getting power in front, that could be a whole other set of issues.
