4 Wheel Drive question

I drive in the snow 5 months out of the year so i am going to say this. You just potnetially gave bad advice. You have more control of the vehicle and how it handles in 2wd.(if you are a capable driver) If you start understeering in the snow in 4wd its too late. Most people turn the wheel more, and continue to understeer worse causing a crash. Only time i remocend you should be using the 4wd is if you are having trouble getting going. Once moving if you are sliding all over the place, you are diving too fast.

 

4 runners will do it too. Unless you have a model that has a torrent limited slip diefferential. Like the limited has, the SR5 and the Trail edition are part time and will bind like the Tacoma will.

 

You get dry snow ? Where are you located ?

 

Get all kinds. I used to live in northern maine, where i grew up, now im in central-southern. Its a toss up of what kind of snow we get here. Depends on the day. Up north is was mostly dry snow, but deep.

 

So you know what I mean about how different snow types are different to drive in .

 

Yes totally. My original comment to the other fella was base on him giving too much faith into 4wd. Sometimes it can put you in the ditch, specifically if the conditions are right, relating dirctly to what you speak of.

 

Yep , there's a fine line between using the front tires to pull the front in the direction you're steering and just plowing forward in the direction the truck is pointing

 

Correct! And its like the hardest thing to explain to people, that fine line. Im on my 5th 4wd (transfer case) vehicle and sometimes its gotta be 4 other times its gotta be 2.

On the flip side i have found a rear biased awd system is fantastic almost all the time.
