I agree with the above, as well (although the exact wording should be BELOW 60 MPH)... Here is the card in the visor that so many don't seem to have read or maybe don't have one there... This limit (under 60 mph) is for going INTO H4. Once in 4WD-HI, then there is no speed limit for its use. But, like others have said... unless you are in the Baja 1000, why in such a hurry off road? LOL

Yes it can go to 50 for a second or two, as you showed... BUT SHOULD YOU for a sustained longer period of time? Do you need to?

The factory RECOMMENDS the locker be used for emergencies only (to get unstuck or get through something the open differential or traction controls cannot get you through)... and to not exceed 5 mph (because steering is affected with the differential locked) for SAFETY reasons.

Do you guys really want 60 Minutes to do to the Toyotas with lockers what they did to Jeep's CJ-5 (cause it to be discontinued)???:eek:

Never in a hurry off road but we get a lot of compact snow/ice covered highways in the winter time around here. Granted 60 is max for those but 50 is common.

The speed given (under 60 mph) is for rotating the dial from H2 to H4, not a limit once engaged. So, put it into 4WD before you drive fast... then drive fast if you must!

Whip and David, You guys really actually like each other don't you. All this animosity if just a show, in reality, you are friends in real life and kick back beers together laughing it up.

I understand, just making a case that some people do need to driver fast regularly in 4H.

Your answer is to use your common sense.

If you are driving 45 mph already what would change that you need 4wd?

If you need 4wd why in earth would you be driving above 55 anyhow?

4wd is great for traction but it does nothing for helping your truck stop in snow packed streets.

Tell that to Thomson Reuters whose 2010 4wd Tacoma set a world record for a south pole overland expedition.

Thanks all, was not happy with the drive this morning, and thinking about my drive home, never had a true 4WD before so unsure how safe it is for the truck to drive in 4WD all the way home if need be.
