Getting it ready for the kids to drive. Camper shell removed (better visibility for inexperienced drivers), wheels and tires from the 2016. The TPMS is unhappy with the 2016 wheels now but was happy when it left Discount Tire. Pressure is all the same. Ideas?

Curb feelers, the little dingle balls around the ceiling and a set of chrome naked lady mud flaps always set things in the right direction!

Did you put the '06 sensors into the '16 wheels? If not, it sounds like the '06 didn't sync with the '16 sensors, and once you drove away and separated the truck from its original sensors, the system detected the lack of sensors; unless you swapped them into the new wheels. Either way, it sounds like the system isn't synced. Also, I'm sure you know this, but check the spare, common oversight.

I swapped the spares to keep all the 2016 sensors grouped on one truck (2006) and all the 2006 sensors grouped on the other (2016) and now it seems OK.

I kept the 2016 sensors in the 2016 wheels, no sensor swapping.

    EDIT: Update, still not working.

Hmmm. The ECU needs to be programmed with the sensor IDs if you swap. Not sure Discount Tire does that or can do that. It takes a long time for the ECU to turn on the light if a sensor goes missing. So if you are parking both trucks near each other it is possible that is what is keeping the light off most of the time.

BTW, amazing thread! My recreation only Tacoma will unfortunately never get miles on it that fast!

After further research, yep the ECU needs the new sensor IDs. Dealer?

I once swapped wheels, tires and tpms on a trade. The dealer took it into service and it was a quick reprogram. Not sure what the cost would be since it was part of my deal.

Popped the bed off to weld a crack in a sheet metal bed support. I am thinking that while the bed is off this may be the time to replace the fuel pump and filter.

I would definitely. I want to change out my fuel pump to a better performing one.

Any suggestions? URD seems to have some good options.

"The truck was purchased new on July 27, 2006. I do not use the truck commercially or for work activities, miles are largely recreational as my daily work commute is about 10 miles each way." - OP

This is funny. If you drove your truck 20 miles a day (commuting) it would take you 54.79 years (working 365 days per year) to get to 400K!!! You have done some serious recreational driving then my friend!!!

    Way to go! :burnrubber:

How on earth did you find a crack underneath the bed? Did you just hear a funny noise and thought "I think that sounds like a crack in the sheet metal bed support?"

The bed looked like it vibrated more than usual on one side.

Where exactly is the crack located? Have you given any thought to replacing the bed with the Ute bed?

Crack is on the black cross-sill that ties rear of bed sides to box and forms the bed side of the latches for the tailgate. Item #3 in diagram. I don't want to buy a replacement at that price , so hopefully a friend can repair it by welding.

Cracked on the forward corner of both sides as it turns out. Lots of flexing of the frame while wheeling, the bed has to flex in response and I guess after 400k this is a weak link.

    Ute bed?
