3" lift, full stereo system with 2 amps and sub behind the rear seat.
I can get 400 out of a tank with highway driving no problem. I have a 3" lift 285/70/17. I just did a trip yesterday, 235 miles of 65 mph highway for 140 miles and 55 mph for the rest of the trip with some towns along the way. This is the first trip with my new Snugtop shell. I was towing a trailer 400lbs empty on the way up and 2000 lbs loaded coming home, and 4 people in the truck. I have over half a tank left, I will check the mpg when I fill up this week. The best part of the trip was at a stop light on a highway where 2 lanes turn into one. There was a Ford F250 lifted Diesel next to me, when the light turned green he took off fast to cut in front of me, but to his surprise my Tacoma blew by his loud black smoke blowing diesel.

I really think that the 6 speed has a major play in mpg. i drove 65 on almost all flat ground and i have a hard tonneau and the only bad thing is that i have mickey thompson mtz tires. I only got 18.9 and that was with 91 octane.

I can get 22 or 23 mpg no problem (with my BFG AT). Done it twice. Each time was when I drove UP into the mountains (to Bodie SP). The higher the elevation, the better the MPGs. Started at 4K ft elevation and drive up to 8K ft elevation in a day trip (all 55 MPH mountain roads for the most part and went over a couple of higher passes so there was a lot of up and down).

Now I could never do that if I were at lower elevations because the thicker air is a killer on MPGs!

290 on the last few tanks on 265-75-16 60% freeway driving at an average of 80mph. The speedo is on the dot compared to my GPS with the new tires.

But now your odometer will be off. It's gonna read that you traveled 6 percent farther than you actually did.:D

Been driving back and forth between SE Connecticut and Boston every day....have been getting between 22.5 and 23.8 MPG (calculated after every tank used)...but it IS a 4-banger. Mostly hiway....but local, stop and go for last 8 miles of each leg.

VERY impressive. I wonder if the cover has anything to do with it. It doesnt make sense that there is such a difference in mileage between trucks.

I'll annoy a bunch of people here. My last two tanks of gas on my Tacoma have both been north of 25 mpg. 25.8 and 25.5 mpg respectively. :D

Pre-Runners are different beasts. They are rated similar to the 4 cyl. All I was saying is that it is odd that most people who post fall within the exact range that my Scangauge says is possible, but the OP's mileage is according to my data, not achievable. Is the OP's truck a 6 speed?
EDIT - I see it is not, altitude could be a factor........I noticed my 2009 got it's best mileage at higher altitudes, when it was quite hot out. I guess this is the exception that proves the rule.

Anyone notice if going from stock to 265/75/16 wheels really kills MPG?

how do you recalculate you speedo... I have 285/70/17. I got 298 miles (accoording to odo) all highway on about 17 gallons

my rough guestimate is 18.82 mpg...
    average 70-75 mph
    travelled 298 mi
    70-75 on stock tires = 75 - 80 on 285/70/17
    time about 4 hours
    80 mph * 4 hrs = 320 mi/17 gallons = 18.82 mpg

I dont even get 300 to a tank. I have about 750lbs of bumpers, sliders, skids, and toolbox though. Not to mention 4x4 and 33's.

Similar truck here 2009 4x4 V6 Double Cab with Leer Cap. Original tires/wheels. Just drove to texas from ontario. ~65mph mostly (old fart here). Trip average was 22.2 mpg(us). So it's doable. Think the cap helps too.

Coming back was 12.6mpg(us), but that was hauling a 24' travel trailer. <ugh>

Bet if I got rid of that fake hood scoop there'd be another mpg freed up <g>

09 2WD dbl cab TRD intake and catback. Stock tires, lifted 2 1/2".
Trip to Santa Fe N.M. staying at 80 as much as posible. 20MPG avg. Lot's of mountians up and down on the way.
Just ran some long freeway stints here in Phx. at 75 max ( speed cameras keep my cruise there ) and hit a new best 22.5 MPG.

    Pretty decent I think.
Any tire size increase will take some away, extra weight or aero drag like racks, deer on the hood, ect will hurt as well.
