I've run up about 10K miles on my Taco since I bought it in June but still hadn't even seen the low fuel warning light come on. From what I read on this forum when the light turns on you still have about 4 gallons left and I was already at 360 miles so I decided to see if I could clip 400 or more miles in one tank.

This morning when it looked to my eyes like I had 1/8 of a tank left I went ahead and drove to work (21 miles). Nope, no light...

So I then went to lunch (2 miles round trip). Nope, no light...

End of the day came so I started driving back home. BING, the light finally came on. I was at 380 miles so I kept going the rest of the way home.

Finally I got to Exxon in my home town at 404.2 miles. I figured I had pushed it to fumes...

Nope, I still had 2.75 gallons left! With the mileage Iwas getting I could have hit 460 miles on a single tank. I may try for 450 on this tank to see if I can make it. I still want to leave a little gas in the tank to cool the pump, right?

Keep in mind the pump is about 6" tall, and with 2.7 gallons in the tank, that means the fuel depth was only about 2" deep....

Let's see.... um, 2.7 = 2", need 6" to cover pump... carry the one, drop the remainder...

So I need 8 gallons of gas to have the pump submerged? Crap!

I noticed the Escort 8500 Radar Detector in your mods list... I think that might highlight a slight difference in our driving styles

About every 5th tank or so I wave off on my efforts to stretch my buck and drive it like I stole it!

It doesnt have to be submerged all the time. But it DOES use the fuel for coolant. I try to refrain from running below 1/4 tank. Doing this, I have never lost a fuel pump.

Mostly depends on driving style. I can regularly get 20 mpg with 50/50 city/highway with 91 oct.

Yeah I haven't ever had a ticket and I'm 24 and the first month my old radar detector broke I got pulled over for 82 in a 65 and I'm sure I was going faster than that.... I'm no easy on it... Usually running late... Just bought a Scan Guage to try and keep an eye on my MPG...

I have calculated that with my 21.7 mpg, and a 21.1 gallon tank, that I should get 458 miles per tank. I may go over 400 the next time I fill it up to join the 400 club.
