As title says , all of my driving is highway iv had the truck for years and -knock on wood- has not giving me any trouble but my rpms bug the heck out of me, I don't go faster than 70 mph because my rpms will go to high any recommendations what I should do to lower? Is it my gears or tires? Thanks in advance will respond when I can (at work, 2 of my friends tacos cruise at like 2500 rpms)

MT or auto? If auto sounds like your overdrive is turned off and is keeping you out of top gear

Tire size, auto/5 spd, v6/4 cyl, gearing, lift, etc...

Low gears, or very, very small tires? Check your wheel rotation in relation to the number of times your driveshaft spins and see what your gearing is. In other words, see how many times your drive shaft rotates per wheel rotation. Throw it up on jack stands and check it out.

Previous owner may have had it lifted, big tires and regeared, and took back to stock to sell minus the gears :notsure:

4k rpm isn't going to hurt that motor one bit !!!!

that would be my guess. With 4.10s and 31s I'm probably at 2500-2700ish rpm at 70 in 5th gear.

I usually run about 3200 rpm at 80 and don't push it much past that

You say it's a 5 speed. You do actually use 5th gear, right?

I mean you start in 1st and shift 4x ..........

Year of truck? Pictures of truck?

Borrow an OBDII real time reader and see if the ECU RPM output matches the tach? The tach could be whacked.

Sorry for delayed responses all, I'll take a picture after work, and yes I do use 5th gear >.> Lol , if it just has low gears should I just put bigger tires on it or change the gearing to stock? I don't do any off roading or rock crawling the guy I bought from did tho, only places I go are cow mountain rifle range and a few farms nothing bad. Thanks everyone for responding edit: the tires on it now we're new when I bought it, and it looks like there is a little room left (tires are not that small) I'll check what they are after work in few hours edit again also on the door jamb it reads BO3A I think that's the number u want?

B03A means it came from the factory with 4.10 gears.

What is the size of your current tires? Its stamped on the sides.
Mine, for example, is P265/70R-16, which means the diameter is about 31 inches.

The previous owner installed a numerically much higher differential gear ratio. The solution is to install a stock differential (4.10 ratio)

Mine say the same on the side, just I think it might be 70R 18 I can't tell from the pic it's dark out the rugged trail tire ,so would it be more cost effective to buy the stock gearing or just go with bigger tires? Mine are almost worn out anyways

That's pretty much a 32.5" tire. It seems like your only fix is to regear it back to factory. Not cheap though.

I will take a more clear picture tommorow morning but if it is factory size can I just get bigger tires? Instead of re gearing , I looked up prices tires seem cheaper .
