I have a 400w blender we want to run at the beach, does the truck have to be running for this or just on acc? Anyone have issues or do this?

400w is going to kill your battery quickly, even if you could do it without the engine running. Thats probably pulling close to 40 amps from the 12v side. If the blender says 400w on it, its likely going to trip the protection circuit on the inverter when the blender first turns on. Pretty sure you just have to turn everything off to reset it. Only way to find out is to try it.

give it a try, and if she runs awesome. Truck will be fine unless you are making margaritas non stop.

300w should be no problem. Not with my owners manual right now but I am 90% sure the engine has to be running for the outlet in the bed to work. I have no idea what the alternator output is, but if you use the blender for a while I would let it idle for 10min afterward to be safe.

I've used a blender in mine before, but I don't know the wattage. The truck doesn't *have* to be on to use the outlet, but I always do just to be safe.
I've used my plug for the blender, Christmas lights, and a saw-zall. It's pretty handy.

300watt is fine. Truck needs to be running for sure.
If if you where to run it nonstop the circuit protector would kick in if anything before you kill something.
If it does it takes a moment to reset.

you are correct but not wise to do this.
It will not run in acc.
It will turn on in run but will drain your battery if charging or using anything more than a phone charging or something.

Funny story: my wife and a couple of friends of ours went camping with a group of people (maybe 10 other people). As the couple my wife and I started off for a kayak ride I thought I heard the word bushwacker??? Well when we returned 2hr or so later all we heard was the blender running from the bed of the Tacoma (it does run a blender) and 10 people passed out... I didn't have to ask what a bushwacker was! Did I mention it was 10am when we got back????

300w of AC is pulling about the same as 6 headlights... so no, its not going to kill your battery for the minute or two you might need to whip up some drinks. I just dont push my luck with things and would idle the engine while running anything significant from the outlet.

There is a reason why i always carry a battery jumper pack. I have verified that it alone with no help from the main battery will start the truck incase of a complete main battery failure.

FYI, it's not a generator/alternator/anything awesome. It's a regular "power inverter" buried under the center console.

On an 11 the outlet has no power with the key out, the key inserted but off, or the key turned to ACC. The key has to be turned to the run position triggering the dash lights, blower fan, etc before the inverter will send power to the bed outlet. So, the engine doesn't have to be running but it's a good idea for anything more demanding than mixing a few drinks, running a drill motor for a small joib, or running very low draw LED camp lights for an evening. Or just go for whatever and carry a Microstart XP1 or XP10 and don't worry about draining the battery. Having a power pack is a really handy thing to have regardless.

If you are referring to what I said earlier, i know what an alternator is, as well as an inverter. I mentioned alternator because if the output is less than the demand at idle, it will still drain your battery.

Was the wiring tough to get to for that? I was thinking of putting one somewhere on the aft end of the center console below the cup holders.

    Something like this:
