    Hahahaha.... that's awesome!

After the tornado came through it we quickly realized that we had no place in our house to hide. Our house has a open floor plan and is basically a giant balloon if a window broke. So we installed a safe room in the garage. It is 1/2" plate steel and is 5' x 5'. The door has 3 slide locks that are 1" thick pins. It is held in place by 16 expanding Hilti bolts drilled through our foundation. It's "supposed" to stand up to an F5 tornado though I hope I never have to find out. Since we bought it back in 2008 we have probably been in it around 15-20 times as we live right in the path of almost every tornado that comes up from the southwest. It's good insurance and also another selling point of the house.

Just paid $14k to have the inside of our new house painted. They also repainted the kitchen cabinets, inside garages, garage doors, and all the ceilings. 2 coats top Sherwin Williams.

When we painted we were expensive to hire. We never went for the low bid but we just let the owner know you get what you pay for. I've got to paint my garage but that will be the last thing that I do since the garage seems to get the most wear and tear of any part of the house. Nice thing about the garage is I don't have to be nearly as particular about how I paint it since it will just be all white. And yes... All we ever use is Sherwin Williams Promar 200 since it is about the best latex paint you can buy. Depending on the color it will cover with one coat unless you're trying to cover a very dark wall with a lighter color paint.

I'm hoping I can get mine done on Friday since it's supposed to be really nice. My cars sure as hell need a good cleaning top and bottom.

Wow. Never seen one before. One of the perks of living in Comifornia.

Is your foundation not a post tension slab?

I did the same color inside the house on the garage walls and white ceilings. Hard to tell in these pics but its going to look awesome once the epoxy flooring is down, cabinets and lighting installed.

Yeah I doubt you'll have to worry about a tornado in your area.

Our slab is post tensioned. We have a stamp in the corner of our garage. Now... how they figured out where to drill the holes? I dunno? Our subdivision is built on what used to be farmland and the soil is solid. We were the fourth house built in our neighborhood so we got to watch all the other houses built and all of them are also post tensioned.

Well, the fact of the matter is, I don't have much of an opinion about hummingbirds. They are kinda pretty though.

I've seen them x-ray the slab before. You don't want to hit one of those bars under tension.

Thanks for the explanation, I’d have never figured that out.
We obviously don’t get that kind of weather up here in Philly but if we did my house does have a pretty stout basement. Home was built in 1952 and the entire first floor is solid masonry. Built to last but a bitch to alter wiring!

That’s what they do in Telecom specific buildings when we have to mount new structures/ equipment. Mark out where the Rebar is so I can drill in the anchors, missing the rebar the first time.

Exactly. The company we ordered it from was out of Indiana and they were extremely good. I wasn't here for the entire installation but it took them two days so I figure they knew what they were doing. No cracks in our foundation and everything looks perfect so I was very happy with them. It cost me $5000 but FEMA gave me back $1000 for installing it in our house.

That's something that I don't miss. Our old house was built in 1919 and it was a bitch to keep up. We made it a beautiful house and I shudder to think how much money we invested in upgrading the entire house. I will never move into another house that I have to take care of anything. I'm moving to where everything is taken care of for me so I can enjoy living and not working on my house.

I kinda get that. It’s a bit different for me though: other than college and my first 3 years of marriage I’ve spent my entire life living here in this house. My parents downsized into a rancher 2 miles away 10 years ago and we moved in. My in laws are now within walking distance in the back of our neighborhood. I’ve known the couple next door since I was 11 yrs old & they are like adoptive grandparents to my kids. It’s certainly more upkeep than a newer house but you can’t really put a price tag on the memories.
My wife & I had our first “date” here at the house and our first kiss was in the kitchen.
    I guess I’m a bit of a sap. :anonymous:
