My Grandfather meeting the Governor a few days ago. He's almost 100 and still going strong. One of the last WWII survivors. I think of all the things he has seen and been though. I wish I could have lived to 1/3rd of his potential. Truly an extraordinary man.

My Grandfather and Grandmother after the war. She was truly a wonderful woman. They were married for 54 years.

I know this is kind of a taboo subject since I'm a non-believer... But when I was a kid we would visit my Grandparents from wherever we were living at the time, be it Hawaii, California, or Virginia. My Grandmother would kneel down on the side of the bed and say her prayers. She would make me kneel down with her and although I didn't really understand at the time, there was something about hearing her whisper that gave me comfort. I, being a kid at the time, obviously believed and it wasn't until later in life that I stopped believing. But I still hold that memory close to my heart as if it were yesterday. Just something about her whispering.... I miss her dearly.

Yeah I saw that one. That's the one where he ran off the track and flipped the helicopter at the end right? As crazy as I "personally" think he is with his scientology bullshit... I have to give it to him... He's lived one hell of a life.

But can you imagine getting the opportunity to actually get behind the wheel of an actual F1 vehicle? Jesus... I could die a happy man after that.

I see nothing taboo there. That's a fond memory no matter your beliefs on the subject of religion.

I don't know if it's taboo or not. I know we're not supposed to talk about religion or politics on this forum and I certainly respect that. It's not my forum and I do my best to play by the rules set by the owner and moderators of this forum. But just seeing a picture of my Grandmother brought back that memory and it is a fond one. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I read my daughters bible over the last month or so and she asked me why I read it since I'm an atheist? I just told her that I've read the bible from cover to cover a countless number of times. But the only way to truly know something and to keep that information from fading is to actually read or study something that you may not "personally" believe in. She is still amazed that I can recite scripture and name every book of the bible without looking. Everyone has a path to choose. And I've given my daughter something that I didn't get when I was growing up. The freedom to choose her own belief. If she chooses to be a Christian or: insert any other religion, I will never say one thing about it. It's not my choice to make for her. It is her path that she has to follow. I don't press any of my beliefs (or non-belief as it may be) on her. If she asks a question I will give her my honest answer as to what science can prove. Do I know all the answers?? No... Not even close. But I believe in what can be observed and proven. But that's just my belief. I don't discount anyone for what they believe in.

Have you seen the F1 series on Netflix? It's an awesome series that follows a bunch of F1 teams throughout the entire 2018 season.

Can’t remember where I heard or read it but it went something like “Mother / Grandmother is the name for god on the lips of a child.” They controlled our whole worlds for quite awhile so it makes sense. I still remember some of the habits my grandparents and my mother had and think fondly upon them.

    I like that outlook.

My Grandmother had a great influence in my early life. Maybe it's because we didn't get to see them very often since I lived in so many places until my parents divorced when I was a teenager. My Mother and I had a strained relationship growing up especially after I stopped believing. There was rarely a day that went by that we didn't fight and I'm sure that most of the times we did fight it was my fault. She has reluctantly accepted who and what I am. And although she may not like or approve of it... We have a much better relationship now that I am grown.

I remember when I found out my wife was pregnant that I wasn't going to raise my child like my Mother did me. That's not to say that my Mother is flawed in any way. I just didn't approve of how she raised me personally. So I made a conscious decision to let my daughter decide for herself what makes the most sense to "her". I don't push her one way or another. And I'm lucky because we have such an open relationship because of that. She will come to me with some pretty hard questions that I couldn't come to my Mother about and I'll give her my honest answer. We have had some very uncomfortable conversations (on my end) but I would much prefer that to what I had growing up. I didn't have that line of communication with my Mother. Her answer was always "what would Jesus do?". Well... when you're a teenager... that didn't help me much.

IIRC he had been flying for a while before that. I know he got is fixed wing license awhile back. I think he got his helicopter license awhile back also. That video that OZ posted was from 2012 and he flipped the helicopter (albeit with an experienced co-pilot) but he could still fly back then. But yeah... the stunts he pulls off in his movies is pretty impressive. I personally don't like Tom Cruise but I've got to give him some respect for what he actually does. He's done more than I have so there's that.

    Well... fuckit....

I've picked up my guitars and have tried to power through not being able to feel my left two fingers on my left hand but I just can't do it. I'm going to call on Monday and have surgery set up on my hand because I can't take it anymore. I haven't been able to play my guitars in over a year now and I can't take it anymore. My wife had so many medical bills last year I didn't want to pile on anymore bills but I just can't take it anymore. I tried to play this today and I just can't make it sound right because I've no idea where my fingers are landing on the fretboard. This was the very first solo that I learned at 14 and I can't play it now. It's an easy (and awesome) solo since it's only played on the E, B, G, strings but I can't feel it so I'm sick of this shit. I grew up with Tears for Fears and I loved this solo. So by god... I'm going to play it again. I may be playing with stitches but I'm going to fucking play it.
