*EDIT* The Division Bell album was released the day I came on the FD.

I still listen to Big Head Todd and the Monsters quite often. I've seen their entire show at Red Rocks on youtube. I saw them in concert here three times. While on the FD I worked one of the concerts they performed at and got to stand backstage and meet the band.

One of the cooler experiences I've had was working a Black Crows concert. I got to stand on stage literally behind the backup singers, and for just a little bit, I got to see what it must feel like to be a rockstar. Staring at this huge crowd singing your songs back to you must be an amazing feeling. I was standing less than 20' from Chris Robinson. Got to meet the band after the show and they were cool as shit. Worked a Steve Miller Band concert and got to stand in between the barrier between the crowd and the stage pulling people over that were either getting crushed or passing out from the heat. I got to stand right in front of him while he was playing. Didn't get to meet him though.

When I was a senior in college the Spin Doctors and the Tubes (showing my age now huh?) were playing at the college. Once the Spin Doctors were finished with their set they came off stage and hung out in the crowd with us. That was REALLY cool of them to do. Super cool dudes. Signed autographs and just hung out with all of us.

As far as today goes... I made all the reservations and I just happened to check who was playing at Red Rocks and I'll be damned if it wasn't them. I told my wife, "We're fucking going to that"! My daughter isn't really happy since she listens mostly to rap and whatever is popular now but she'll enjoy it once she gets there and gets to just enjoy the atmosphere. She's heard them before because they show up on my playlist along with Toad the Wet Sprocket. But I really want to see Colin Hay. He came here last year to a local club but I didn't learn about it until after the show. Wish I could have seen him in a more intimate setting but I'll take seeing him there with no issues. Not only is he an amazing musician, he's funny as hell.

I've wanted to go to Red Rocks since U2 performed there in 83 (I think it was?) and now I finally get to go there. I think U2 is what helped put Red Rocks on the map with that amazing concert in the rain.

On a side note.... Brit Floyd is performing there two days before we arrive. I'd love to see that concert as that's the closest I'll ever get to seeing a Pink Floyd concert. My daughter would hate it since I made her listen to Pink Floyd all her life growing up but she'd get over it.

And just a little bit of trivia that I was unaware of until recently. David Gilmour Live at Pompeii was the first public performance at that venue since 79 AD. I thought that was kind of cool.

Amazing guitar solo as usual. Can't imagine what it must have felt like being there.

Look into a VRBO in that area. There are some great deals to be had. I’m staying in one right now.

Second this. We used to use it every year when we would go trout fishing in North Ga. We'd get a 8,000 sq ft house on Lake Burton. Dude was a writer for CNN documentaries and was a cool guy. Stayed in a couple other ones up there too and always had a great experience.

Pretty much any band sounds good at Red Rocks. The acoustics are amazing due to the geologic amphitheater. When it’s empty you can hear people talking on the stage at a normal volume from the top seats. In high school we used to climb and scramble all over the park. My climbing mentor showed me the route up and into the Zeppelin crack. We would sneak in climb up and hide and watch shows from there. (Insert do not try this at home warning here)

I’ve seen more than a few shows at Red Rocks, and they were all mind-blowing.

Seeing Gary Clark Jr. damn near have an out of body experience during one of his solos as the clouds opened up after a day of solid rain was pretty damn cool.

If we would have taken our original trip it might have been a hassle to try to get a house each place we were going to stay. I didn't even think about going that route since we are staying in Colorado Springs for a week or so. That would have probably been a better option. Usually when we go on vacation we stay at multiple places so it wouldn't really be feasible. And since we tend to generally go to the same area each vacation I know where "I" like to stay. Once I find a particular hotel I tend to stick with it. But I should have thought of that option since we're staying at the same place for over a week.

Great concert. I got to see U2 twice. Once in Memphis and once when they played a few songs when they opened the Clinton Presidential Library while we were pulling duty there on the FD.

The ONE song of his that he didn’t play that day. Also happens to be one of my favorites.

I love at 10:10 where his bassist just shakes his head as he’s watching Gary go outside his damn mind :D

Gary Clark Jr. has a vibe of Hendrix and Robert Cray going on with him. I've always liked Gary Clark Jr. because his music is just raw and dirty. It feels as if the music is just flowing out of him and whatever note comes out, comes out with a passion.

BTW, Robert Cray was the very first concert I ever saw in person.
