I spent a week there for UPHOLD DEMOCRACY with the AC-130s and PAVE LOWs from Hurlburt. All I have are memories and a GITMO coffee cup.

Largest fucking frogs I've ever seen in my life, and lizards that DGAF.

Best route clearance support ever. Early on (03’) we had Kiowa’s on our platoon net for missions... apparently riding roads in order to get hit so the convoys wouldn’t wasn’t the best tactic because the next tour we had African demining equipment (huskeys, Buffalo, crew systems etc)

    While we’re showing videos...

Me and one of my joes fielding the Antipersonnel Obstacle Breaching System (APOBS). Not as sexy as a fighter or bomber, but it is hand held and I got paid to play with explosives and land mines. Anyways, think of a bunch of grenades attached to a rope and rocket. Two backpacks tie together, pull a pin.. 30 seconds later it launches. If you ever heard of a MICLIC, it’s basically a dismounted version of that.

All the fuckin’ likes! I’ve got a slab of beer waiting for you mate. Kiowa pilots pulling into our convoy and flying right above the road matching speed, radio cranks up and they’d peel off and next thing you’d hear would be a whole mess of OH-58 style hate going off a couple clicks up the road smoke checking an ambush. Co-pilot getting his off with the M4 leaning out the door. Bad. Mother. Fuckers.

    Thank you! :hattip:

I enjoyed convoy security, as much as any other mission out there. It was always our pleasure to pick you guys up and escort you to the next FOB. I can honestly say, that every KW Pilot out there felt the same way.

One of coolest and loudest for me too. We used to watch the tanker flying schedule..."Q" model tanker meant Blackbird was launching. We'd park our launch truck on the Bravo Ramp as close to the runway as allowed.

I had a guy that worked dayshift come in all pissed off, asking who was running engines that morning...I said I was! He's like" you woke me up at 6am!" I said, "Thats what you get for living on base and you're welcome"...and walked off. For me still by far the coolest things Ive ever done was run engines on B-1B...

Man, I love all kinds of military aircraft. That B-1 is a thing of beauty.

Remember the earthquake discussion? Woke up last night hearing some metal wall decorations rattling, which happens occasionally when there's a loud thunder clap close by. But no storms or Harleys were driving by, and it kept going for a bit. I thought, earthquake? Then went back to sleep. Apparently there was a 3.7 mag quake to the east near Mountain Home. I didn't actually feel anything (unless the initial jolt is what woke me).

    Anyway, happy Thursday, gents.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I grew up on an Air Force base. I loved the air shows. The first time I saw the F117 it was surrounded by armed airmen. You couldn't get very close to it. The base had a B52 air wing. You could always tell when they were taking off. My favorite was the F4 until I saw Top Gun.

I had all the models hanging form the ceiling in my room and dozens of posters on my bedroom wall. Those were the days.

Ditto. Raised in the Air Force, swore I'd never join the military, then end up doing it anyway out of college. Figure I've lived on base a total of 35 years of my life. Got the point you don't even hear the engine run-ups in the hush house.

Hell, at 1700 every day I still expect to hear Retreat sound. That was probably the best part - everything on base stops and for 100 seconds everyone and everything is focused on the base flag.

Rocked it yesterday when I tested.

I drew D on the pre trip which meant I had to pre trip the entire truck and trailer. Missed 6 out of 160. Didn’t take any points on the maneuvers and passed the road test. Pick up my license tomorrow. :woot:

Put in my application with Coke last night. Talked to my buddy there and he said his boss been bugging him about getting me to apply again so they can hire me. Ha!
