Glad it was a productive trip. Is this normal for the hiring process to take this many steps and this amount of time?

    It was

really was just meant to be a suggestion, no sense in cluttering up a thread with 12 dozen individual for sale posts that have little relevance to most in that thread.

One of the others in thread reported it, I left it alone. Thought about poking it a bit but didn’t. It could have been fun. Some folks take themselves way to seriously

Yes. The job posted 1/13 and I applied 1/14, got an email for a pre-call on 1/17 and then had the actual call on 1/20.
If I do the interview next week it will be within 2 weeks of the job posting - pretty good timing considering the hiring director will fly into Philly from Minnesota to do it.

Brother... I know you don't need it but good luck. It sounds like they know they have a great asset to the company and they have noticed you and your work ethic. In a business that is as large as HD, that's saying something.

Hell, when I was in Junior High we had a shop class. Rebuilt lawnmowers etc... Also had a woodworking class. And if I'm not mistaken (which I probably am), we had to take at least one 9 week course in home economics.

Yeah, I understood what you meant. That book explores the demise of teaching tradecraft in schools in favor of pushing college track intellectual stuff. I love both. But as we all know, both isn't for everyone. Some extremely bright and talented people just don't click with college track book learning, but we have more than a few examples in society of those who have bailed on college track and become phenomenally successful in whatever else became their talent and passion.

I bought a very used guitar from a pawn shop. (Thanks Mom).

Stripped it apart for the electronics and neck and built a Hamer Scarab my senior year.

I didn't know jack about intonation or string height but I walked around from class to class with this thing like I was the proudest mf on the planet.

    Like this one.

Wood shop was a great class.

There’s a lot of politics the higher up you get. In many cases it’s not about what you know but who you are.
I learned that he has 3 viable candidates to choose from and that I am one of the three.
The director told me this personally on Wednesday afternoon.

Yeah, I had woodshop in junior high. My dad was never a crafty tooly guy, so I had no idea what I was doing. I learned a lot just through the exposure. Oh, this is how you make wood into a billion useful things that make life tolerable on earth. I also remember someone getting some brutal injury, I think his hand got stuck in a belt sander. So the liability can be a bit of a third rail for school districts, and I think that was also a big driver of the demise. But I think that sort of situation comes down to poor supervision and lesson structure. Let's just say the teacher could have been more engaging.
