    Hey TW,

I’ve got a new Tacoma with 4300 miles on it and it sounds like my rear brakes are already squeaking. Obviously it’s likely dust or dirt in the drum.
I’m wondering if I take it to the dealer if the would correct it as a warranty issue or if that would be out of my pocket? Any experience?

The dealer that services my car would probably just take it apart and clean it and call it good with no charge. But not so confident the Toyota dealer I use would be as generous.
    Thanks

Why would brakes be considered warranty items? Hose them off, use the ebrake a few more times.

If they squeak when braking, that’s pretty normal. Not much to do.
You can try putting some ant-vibration shims between the front pistons and pads, or brake grease.
Possibly you were a bit heavy on the brakes down a hill and the rotors glazed up, which would need to be cut a fresh surface.

The drums are pretty much sealed, and it’s doubtful they are making much noise

But if they squeak all the time when moving, then there may be a different problem, maybe a wheel bearing, or lost brake pad pin or something else not getting the clearance it needs.

Wear items are not covered by warranty but if you have a defect causing the issue, that is covered. They would need to determine that on inspection.

    Thanks.
I guess I wouldn’t expect drums to squeak/squeal when the truck has only 4300 miles on it.

I don’t think there is much more wrong with them beyond dust from dirt and gravel roads.

Might drive it a few more times and see if the noise goes away, then decide if I take any further action.
