Turned 434,081 Miles on my 2005 V6. Check engine light is on as cylinder #2 runs a bit rough when first started in the mornings. I would love some thoughts to correct as I need to have an emissions test soon.

I hope my 05 gets near your mileage mark.

Good luck with your problem. Bad plug wire? Only fifteen years and 400K miles on it.

Still on the original head gasket or was it replaced? Inquiring minds need to know. I too have an 05 that has only 127K and I start it with my fingers crossed.

Maybe a dumb question but how can you tell it’s cylinder #2 without reading a code?

If it turns out head gasket maybe less money to install newer lower miles salvaged engine. Maybe just a bad cat if you are lucky. Might need new plugs. Please let us know. Thanks

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
ive had a few with bad injectors come in recently. but also a few with bad head gaskets.. both with the same symptoms. i would compression test before anything.

434000 miles. Amazing. Sounds like your Tacoma is close to giving up the ghost that keeps it going.
    Its inevitable.

That is amazing! Hope my 06 makes it to that many miles! At the rate I’m going it will take: ~34 years. I will be 68, hope I make it that far too!

    Still the original head gasket.

I was told by a mechanic that the #2 cylinder was missing when starting from a cold start. I did not ask about the code. He suggested I go to dealer, which I may have to do.

Missing cylinders at cold start is a dead giveaway that it will need that injector replaced.

Find yourself another mechanic if that's his advice. Buy yourself a code reader and start by checking the compression yourself and go from there. Why spend more $$ on a dealership when you already got more mileage than any tacoma owner could ask for. You know it's inevitable that a new motor is needed in the future. Just drive it, fix what you can, then swap in another used motor.

You can probably borrow a code scanner at a parts store or buy an OBD II scanner for less than $20. Use fee apps for mobile devices.
