The lack of Springfield 1911s is partly driven by economics. You can buy 5 Glock 22s for the price of 1 Springfield Professional.

Screw the xd, glock and m&p unless you like 17 lb triggers and pussy firing pins. For 500 new rock river or springfield makes a wonderful 1911, if you want polymer get a HK USP. I own a hk usp in .40 and .45, hands down best polymer framed gun i own(besides fn 5.7) Find a used tactical with adjustable sights and threaded barrel for around 700 and non tactical for around 550

17lb triggers? really? shall we exaggerate a bit more? I've got upwards of 10K rounds thru one of my Glocks without a firing pin issue and close to 5K thru my other one without an issue

Glocks also all come standard with a 5.5lb trigger pull

My M&P's have a 4.5# pull. That's about as light as you want for a carry handgun... I'm a dyed in the wool 1911 guy, my favorite handgun I own is a Kimber TLE II that got thrown through the Wilson catalog, it's truly a tack driver, but I have quit carrying it for the M&P.

The USP sucks, and that $500 1911 is going to be more of a headache than a fun and enjoyable purchase.

Ah another glock bandwagonner! What i say now? Not even sure that made since but glocks fit and finish is no where close to hk or other manufacturers that actually make real guns. and yes the glock will shoot almost everytime and thats nice but doesnt really matter if you cant hit shit with it. BTW 4 lbs is not a light trigger bud

haha hey "bud" it's not a freakin .22 match rifle, try not to loose sight of the big picture here, it's a pistol and while a 4lb trigger isn't "light" by your standards it doesn't seem to bother me one bit on the range nor does the 5.5lb factory glock trigger, i'm glad you're happy with you're HK and that it gives you the feel of a real gun, whatever you gotta do to make yourself feel better about spending twice the money on a weapon that cant do anything better than my G21;)

edit, i'm not a bandwagoner either, i have a 1911 and several other pistols other than glocks, but i carry/compete with a glock, they dont sit in a glass display case

Doesn't HK have a rubber washer at the end of the barrel that wears out?

According to the HK website, the USP line of pistols also comes with a 51N DA trigger pull

That equals 11lbs and some change

Also... anyone who has a "light" trigger on a defensive weapon not only is jeopardizing their own safety, but those around them.

Define real gun. If its fit and finish then your hk is no where near a Wilson combat.

No other gun maker out there offers that much variety in caliber and sizes for their guns.

The fact that I can use a g17 mag in my g19 is pretty damn good. And you can use a g19 or g17 mag in a g26. Makes the g26 very versatile.

Maybe the glocks grip isn't for everyone.
But if you use an isosceles stance the grip is actually pretty good and comfortable. If you use a weaver stance then it might feel weird.

And sure the glock trigger isn't as light as my 1911, but they do sell a 3.5 lb disconnect for 13 bucks. It's a simple drop in and makes it about close with my 1911.

USP isn't going to come around for $500.

If I were looking for a 45 high cap, I'd get the new XDM competition model with the fiber optics and lightened slide. The 5.25" barrel would help you get the most out of the caliber. If you were dead set on staying under $500, I'd go with the original XD 45 Tactical with the 5" barrel. Serious home defense when you add a tac light.

Neither would be good for CCW but great for HD or a truck gun.

My Springfield 1911 was hit and miss until I did some extractor work. Now it runs like a top. I still might lower/flare the ejection port. It's a GI.

With stock trigger in SA i had a average of 3.7 with a lyman digital

Exactly, i dont like polymer framed guns. EIther kimber or colt, even rock island shoots almost as well as my colt series 80

I sell them used for 450-500 bucks all the time, 700-900 for the tacticals. Get this, i paid 250 each for my usp's in .40 and .45

You sell USP 45s for $450 all the time? Interesting. I was just at the Wannemaker gun show and the cheapest I saw was $475 for a 40 cal. No 45s were anywhere near $500.
