I was told when I bought mine they do the changes at 10k for normal use but if you tell them you tow a trailer/heavy loads(whatever that is with a tacoma) they will allow a change at 5k miles.

No. The service is performed at the manufacturer's recommended intervals -- could be based on time or mileage, depending how much the vehicle is driven and how it is driven (normal service interval vs severe service interval). The maintenance is not performed simply because the owner requests it... however... I have read a few stories where the owner insisted on getting his free maintenance before it was due, and the dealer obliged. But this is not Toyota's standard operating procedure. With these "included maintenance" programs, the vehicle gets what it needs, when it needs it, generally.

I'm sure it depends on the service advisor. They did mine at the 5K service when I asked, and also did manual/visual auto trans fluid level check. Just talk to em and find a cool one.

Ok, from the dealers standpoint this makes sense.

Cool I might just ask, see what they say.

Not entirely true. Most dealers will perform it at your request outside the intervals but at the end of the day you only get 4 tire rotations and two oil changes..

I took my truck in for an alignment yesterday and they asked me if I wanted an oil change as well....

I have experienced this on both my toyotas at different dealers seperated by 1800 miles. So to me it seems SOP to do an oil change or service whenever the owner wants.

Why would toyota care anyway? Bring it in for oil or don't they are a business..

Oil does not break down at 500, 1000, or even 1500 miles and filter is still doing its job. I also don't get it.

Tranny on the list also ?
