Hmm. Got my 18 in June and it's on the recall list. Guess I'll go waste another day at the dealer. The sad part is that my 18 has spent more time in repair at the dealer than all 11 years of my 07 Taco combined.

Yep, ever since that “Skewp may fail at startup” recall, it’s just hasn’t been the same.

Well that was a wasted trip.
Get there and they write it up, pulled it around and it sat outside for about 10 minutes. They pulled it in the shop, and about 15 minutes after it was in the bay, its being pulled up to the ready line. The SA comes over and tells me they have to order the part and the part is on backorder. I didn't even ask why this wasn't known before, I didnt even say a word to him, I just took my keys and left.

That’s how it always is. Most dealers don’t stock parts for every vehicle. Just like the blower motor service campaign. I need to bring mine in to get it done. Haven’t had time, but when I do I’ll make sure they order the part before hand. More than likely they won’t have any in stock or the ones they do will already be accounted for.

Working for large auto groups and being around dealers the last 14 years I can tell you that usually when you call to set an appointment up usually that person you’re speaking to has no idea what’s involved in the repair. Some aren’t even located in the department and some (in large auto groups) aren’t even located in that dealership. Even if you talk directly to a device advisors most wont know if they have parts in stock. A few of the good employees that deal with the same repairs daily might know, but usually on a repair that’s new they wouldn’t have a clue.

I understand the part stock issue, I am in the service/repair industry. However, when I called last week the SA pulled up the recall number and knew what was required. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I was given the impression that the part would be there.
Oh well, I am on vacation time right now so it didnt take any time from something important, and since it was early the coffee was fresh. I also walked around the lot a few minutes and my goodness at how many Cement Tacomas they had. I am glad I got Inferno and even more happy Inferno was discontinued.

    Ridiculous.

I guess it was a year or more since I took my 2nd gen to the dealer for a catalytic converter recall. I get there tell them why I'm there, which was also noted at the time I made the appointment. They might be able to do it today if we can get the part in time.

I'm thinking why not order the part when I confirmed my appointment?

I noticed the same with cement. I originally wanted to get quicksand, got inferno and then seen 2 more right after I bought mine. Then started seeing a few quicksand ones around. Not sure where all the ones are hiding at they have been selling but I don’t see to many driving around. Luckily Since we have GM and Ford plants around where I live most people drive those. Some times I think inferno is a little to much but I’m happy with it. Also happy they stopped producing it so there isn’t 100 of the like, driving around. Glad you feel the same

Because you wouldn’t believe the amount of people to order parts and don’t show up. Some of the parts are special order and they can’t return. Other they can return but it’s a hassle or they get charged. 90% of really old parts when you do an inventory that show up and you’re like why the hell do we have this, are because someone ordered it for a customer and they never showed. Something they couldn’t return and just sat in inventory. I watched a few inventories where they destroyed 30k worth of product. I’m not sure if the logistic of it all. Some was newer products we currently used and I carried in my inventory. I was told it had to be destroyed. Guess that was to be able to write it off. Not sure why why wouldn’t just try to sell it on eBay or something. There are companies that will even buy it on pennies to the dollar, they turn around and sell it for profit. They probably get back more with the tax write off then they would in those situations. Anyways you’d be surprised at some of the shit and why things are done a certain way

Took the truck in at 8 a.m., job was complete by 9:15 a.m. Very uneventful and the tech did a good job of being careful and cleaning up.

Curious if anyone has actually received a Recall Letter from Toyota or if doing the recall on their own Thanks

No letter from Toyota. Did get an email from Toyo Corp with link asking to plug in my vin to check if needed. I did and result was to call local dealership for replacement.

Made appt and Dealership provided enterprise rental for a few days. Ironically, a new Chevy Colorado.

2019 Tacoma, made in Texas - punched in the VIN and no recall.
One thing noticed is everyone who had the recall show were made in Mexico (once you get past the hot or not, ridgeline, and animal post), but nobody with made in USA admits to having the recall in this thread anyway. Maybe the Mexico division were delivered the flawed parts? Who knows though .......
