    Let's see that 2003 Taco!

I say put $5k into that, assuming it's already reliable, and literally drive until the wheels fall off.

I wouldn't listen to an old fella when I was 21 so I don't expect you too either, but damn I wish I would have.

Negotiate for the best price you are comfortable with and buy it. Just do you best to pay it off asap. I overpaid for mine looking at the prices others have paid for theirs. However, my goal is to pay it off in 3.

I am asking it is a okay deal, not if i can afford it. I know I can afford it just fine last year I made 120k this year before tax. I will most likely hit the same but Im being over conservative

I think most would agree that it’s not but depends on what you consider to be a good deal. It comes down to what you “value”

It's not an ok deal, you could do much better if you waited this current market out until things settled down.

If you have a vehicle already, keep it, wait to buy new.

Don't forget insurance. How much does it cost to insure a 21 year old in a 48K truck?

It’s a bad deal. Play the long game and get what you want at a fair price.

Bad deal. Next year at this time you’ll be able to get a PRO for 52k OTD. Why not hunker down eat some ramen, save half of that 120k per year salary and buy it cash and not pay interest to the crooks at the bank? That would be the smart thing. You seem smart. If you buy now, not so smart.

Paying 48k otd for a trd is plain stupid for any mid side truck imo. I bought a 2020 sr5 now retired with all that stuff except it not being a trd, but otd for 13k less. No way would a trd or be worth 13k for to have.
At 21 years of age i'd be thinking more about your future while buying something more affordable, and putting that money into something that makes you money.

I say wait....Economy is going to shit, I could def be wrong, but we very well could be deep in a recession in 6-8 months and you may be able to get it much cheaper. Save your cash and see what happens rest of year, you're young, don't rush.

Nice work young buck!! Hard work pays off.

I’d still wait, especially since it sounds like you have good wheels.

Save up your money for a year. Find the exact truck you want. Drop 40% down on it. Pay it off in 2 years. Drive it for the next 25 years and be happy.

Only you can decide if the deal is okay or not. When I was your age, I had quite a few cool muscle cars. I paid below MSRP for all of them (including a new Corvette) so evaluating if it was a good deal was not an issue for me.

I always bought what I wanted and could afford. Who better to splurge on than yourself. Remember, you are only young once.

If you don’t have to buy now, wait 3-4 months and save maybe $5k when prices come down. And they will.

2wd or 4wd? If 2wd that's a no way from me. Like others have said, would be best to wait out this sellers market if you can.

Network engineers can make a lot as a 1099. With todays economy i've heard some are packing 3 gigs and making 450k a year, granted they have at least a masters at that point and a work history, not just certs.

paid msrp on my trd or and there was no haggling below it at any of the toyo dealership in the greater region, if you didn't want to pay there were 10 other people behind you that drove 400 miles to pick it up and pay the dealer pack.
38300 sounds about right for the msrp sticker

big issue: FINANCING at 21 your credit history is probably too short to get financed on your own and your revolving credit utilization is going to be low.
Cosign, pretty sure promo rates can't be applied.

Without a cosign, the bank could have you down pay more than half the car so your loan is a less risky 20kish. without a cosign the interest rate is going to be high, but 10-18 months is where you have built enough history to try for a lower rate. Back in the day, as a salesperson we'd point you to the 15k saturns or used jettas because thats all the bank would ever clear for someone without a credit history but a good down payment.

If you couldn't do that, we pointed you to the thousand dollar trade ins in the back

keep in mind that tax (3,400) and fees (~800) eats up a chunk of your down payment. (wow! SD is 7.75%, haven't seen that low in years)
don't finance your tax and fees.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
    No.

Different vehicle, but there's a list of Toyota dealers who claim that they will sell the Toyota GR Corolla (AWD turbo sports car, think Lancer Evo/WRX STi) for MSRP or markup on the GR Corolla forum. I figure if they will sell that for MSRP, they would sell a Tacoma TRD Off-Road for MSRP.

You are at SoCal and you aren't in a rush, so why not put your name down at Longo Toyota? A friend of mine is getting his GR86 for MSRP and no mandatory add-ons from there.
