I put a piece of butyl tape on the back, it's held in place. Keep in mind my application where I weave the strap through the handle and down, now imagine trying to put the strap through the back of a hole cut out on front, between the can and the holder, it wouldn't work. If you weren't doing the handle weave I'm sure you'd just push the strap to the side, then put it back when you put the can in, but even taut it would have an opportunity to slip off the top of the can, rendering the strap moot.

I think this could work with a tonneau if two things were to happen.

    1. You remove or move the foam block on the tonneau (specifically the one I have, maybe others).
    2. You are able to get the jerry can holder to sit perpendicular to the bed and not at an angle.

I say this because, on its own, a jerry can will sit under the tonneau, which is how I usually transport them, bungee corded in place to the cubbies.

Honestly, if I had known all this ahead of time, I probably would not have bought this, but now that I have it I'm determined to make it work. I'm sorry, no knock on your workmanship, it's a quality piece of kit, it just does not work with "all tonneaus" right out of the box.

I kind of want one that mounts up front and fits at least 2-3 cans but not flat like the current iteration, turn the can 90*. Also needs something to add straps for can retention. I also might just design and weld up my own because I'm one of those people

That's super interesting! I'm having trouble visualizing it. Throw up a sketch of what you are thinking! Who knows maybe I can figure something out.

    Like this but x3

I’ll probably make something to go at the front of the bed. Not sure yet how mine will work since I will have a topper and wedge tent. Might have to get an external bumper mount to be safe

Carry extra fuel or gas in a Jerry Can without it sliding all over your bed!
Only 6 left! After these are gone I realistically won't have time to make any more till July sometime.

If you could make some for VP fuel cans next time around that would be awesome! I’d buy a couple for me and my Taco driving bike mechanic.

    Introducing the Taco Jerry

So I've had my Tacoma for several years and whenever I needed to carry extra gas or water it was always sliding around in the bed. I decided to solve this by designing a bracket that would mount to the bed rails to keep them from sliding around.

    This is Taco Porn!
All that fuel shortage that was happening can be solved next time if you carry extra Jerry Cans of gas in your bed. Anyone have any questions about the Taco Jerry? It's only $64.99

Some minor adjustments had to be made due to using the back rail and having a bedmat. Also swapped the hardware for some T-Nuts and button head bolts.

Metal prices finally got low enough that I could go back into production with some new updates! Introducing the Taco Jerry

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Would it be possible to add an offset at the rail mount so the bottom of the holder sits on the bed instead of the edge?

Since you're local I'll be looking in the bed of every black 3g til I find one.

yes you could definitely put a spacer there. The bed is not a perfect 90 degree angle and when designing and testing, it was a stronger to have them mounted fully against the rail.

Instead of a spacer I was thinking about a bent offset, so the back plate has a 'z bend' at the top for lack of a better term.
