yeah I see your point! Because the bed is plastic and slippery I wonder if that would have it lose some integrity and strength when off roading. Right now the weight of a full Jerry can sits down between the plastic notches on the bed to keep it from putting shear weight on the bed rails when overlanding. I’ll keep sitting on the idea though and see if I’m the future I can come up with a solution

I got an idea that would make this better. I have a Camper shell and sleeping platform that sits on the wheel wells. See https://bambeds.com/products/bambed...XS6gO5qAWtdJ5WxndDdShruuPlWY1uoAaAjA3EALw_wcB for reference.
For people with Campers who don't mind the jerry can not resting on the floor, you could add two mounting holes lower than the existing holes that would allow us to mount it so the bottom sits above the wheel wells. The holder would rest on the plywood. I know I could probably figure out how to cut two new holes and paint it but just wanted to share. I plan on purchasing one of these in the future. Thank you for the great product.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes I've seen a couple people now make minor modifications so that it will work with their set up. They are pretty easy to drill holes into for additional mounting locations. If you do it, post a pic so I can see how it works. The next batch I make I might add some additional holes in the back where some others have wanted them.

Are you making them out of steel now? How well will they mount on a swing out with extra holes that I drill in them? Also, do you have any single can ones in unpainted that are ready to go out now?

I was just about to order one on your website and came over here to look for a discount code but it looks like you have batches going out only every once in a while. I will follow this thread, but please update if you do have some left. I’d like to get one soon because the crappy one I bought on Amazon folds out under the weight of a full can and drops them on the trail. Thanks!

hey man yes I just made another batch and I have 22 ready to ship. Yes they are made out of steel now. If you drill extra holes where you need them it should have no problem mounting to a swing arm. It’s 16gauge steel so it’s pretty heavy duty.

OK I just ordered, thanks! The one I tried before was made of steel straps, kind of cool looking and really light, very good for empty cans, but it was pretty funny when I had a full one on there and went on a bouncy road for a few miles. Guy behind me was honking a little bit and told me about it. The rack was bent totally outwards, and there was no can in it. I had to go back several miles to pick up the now empty can. It cracked when it hit the ground.

Are the mounting holes pretty far apart close to each upper corner of the back? I’m wondering if the weight of a full water can in there will make the sides of the back flex out on both sides a bit? If so, should I mount it at the corners against a bar that goes across the whole backside?

yeah in this style of customization I would recommend using the holes where the back of the bracket is fastened to the front piece. You’ll see what I mean when it arrives. You might have to drill them out a bit to accept a thicker stronger bolt. I don’t exactly know how your swing arm is designed but with some basic physics and a couple bolts in the right places this should be a ton better. Feel free to contact me with any questions at all as you customize it. I’m happy to help
