I rode in a friends Prius, not a bad car and great mileage. I wouldn’t mind having one except they take your man card at the dealership when you buy one.:p

I think the embarrassment comes from the fact that it is 2.7L engine that makes 159hp and gets more or less the same mileage of a 3.5L V6. I mean common Toyota… it is 2021 and you have a 2.5L engine on RAV4 that makes +200hp.

Careful……..you’re gonna trigger the “truck motor” debate.

I hear ya, but quit bitchin’. They selling them and we’re buying them. Good thing the resale value is through the roof. So you can opt out anytime.

The Dealer gave me a Prius as a loaner one day, was fairly comfortable but felt weird to drive. It had a disconnected feeling, almost as if you were driving your refrigerator or stove around.

It’s not for everyone, I have a 19 4wd. I’m not blown away by the truck itself , but I do really like the engine itself. I can tow my 6x12 enclosed total weight around 2200 pounds loaded cruising at 65 mph no problems, even with 255/85/16 load range E mud tires and a heavy camper shell. 24 mpg (not towing) on highway with factory Trd wheels/tires , 18 city. It’s got plenty of capability offroad and has got me to some sweet places. Mine is the Sr , and I think I saved an initial cost of around 3-4k upfront, maybe a little more. Only paid 26,800 OTD new. Ease of Maintenance is a big plus for me. The plan was if the overall truck proves to be reliable enough I was planning on keeping the truck for life.
Valve cover gasket, 30 min job.
    PS pump, 45 mins job
Exhaust manifold , 1 hr job (depending on how rusted bolts are by the time it comes to that)
    Alternator, 10-15 mins
    Water pump, 1-1.5 hr
    Intake manifold gasket 1.5 hr
    Starter , 30-45 mins
Has a regular oil filter that’s easily accessible
All bell housing bolts are easily accessible from on top and underneath the truck. Can have engine or trans pulled in 4-6 hrs in my driveway. don’t have to pull engine to do the timing cover.

It has its pros, amd of course it’s cons. It’s no race truck. But I will say it picked up a lot of performance after around the 20k mile mark. Maybe just breaking it in did the trick idk. I like the engine

I think part of the issue is just the times. Smaller engines in general have progressed incredibly. Not too long ago you had 8 cylinders pumping out less then 175 hp once emissions laws started to be forced. Now we have 300 HP 4 bangers with turbos and 8 speed auto trans. I can remember in the early 80’s
A friend owning a 4 cylinder mustang that probably had less than a 100 horsepower that on a steep hill would come to a stop unless you got a good running start.

6 cylinder is the motor to take you into the jungle, but the 4 cylinder is the motor that will get you out!
