I mean yeah I gotta admit it’s slow and the transmission is annoying but it gets me where I’m going and I can haul crap in it and it looks cool lol. I bought it for utility no real off roading

Cruising at 55-60 is the sweet spot. my 2.7 gets around 26-28mpg at that speed but then single trip doesn't mean much. I can get roughly 400+ miles per tank by the time the gas light comes on.

I should say did... I put on bigger Falkens and now i'm down at 21ish average per tank. Can still squeak out 400 miles per tank of gas though.

If you need to tow/haul or run really big tires then the 2.7 is going to get your worse mpg than the V6 but as is the way it came from the factory with 245/75R16s it's pretty impressive for mpg I used to average around 23-24mpg per tank with mostly local driving.

And yes I love my 2.7 she's slow but I like her! When I was buying I had the option for the V6 for only 1600 more with the exact same options I had on mine but stuck with my 2.7 after all my research. No ragrets (sic)

Ahh this is quite the thread.

Lots of astute observations and well thought out opinions.

The thing about turtles is that they live a long time.

Only time I'm ever hurting for more power is on the interstate and inclines at elevation. Sometimes on short uphill on ramps, too. But in AZ we have long on ramps and flat land so I get around fine.

I drive a V8 for work and that gets my lead footed inhibitions out of the way.

Has anyone added an after market hitch to their 2.7? I know the 2.7 has over 3000lbs towing capacity but is that with a towing package (transmission cooler, larger alternator)? Want to add one but not sure of it’s limits, don’t want to ruin the trans.

Last thing i bother with is a lot bigger heavier tires...these near stock 265/70 16's work great for my needs, and fuel economy is still very close to the same. All the time i wondered and was told i'd have issues towing my stuff with the v6 after having a v8 tundra....pleasantly surprised its not the case. I've had 4's in my older toyota 4wd trucks pulling similar loads...imo, they haven't got enough motor to feel comfortable doing it. It was very hard on the automatic, and the clutch when one truck was a manual.

Check your manual for your towing capacity.

Did you have a towing package?
