Hi guys! Ok, to most I mention 4cyl double cab Prerunner and they laugh at me! That said I previously had a v6 double cab Prerunner and hated the gas mileage on it and ended up trading it in a for my 2013. Now I knew by all means that the 4cyl wasn't going to be as swift and as responsive as the v6 but damnit I almost got slammed into today from some crazy guy running a red light trying to get out of his way!! The low response on it does bug me but I was ok with it for the most part but this incident today scared me! So I guess my question would be, is there anything I could do to add some umph to her? Other than adding a new engine that is! Lol .. air intake, exhaust? Does any of that do anything or should I say help with anything? Thanks in advance guys! :)

I changed the stock air filter to the afe dry filter and added michellin at2 tires but they are the oem sized tires. As for the secondary coal air filter, I don't know what that is, or even where it is.

I think it's a Tacoma, let me go check again...
*Cracks knuckles* Where do I begin?
I have a 4 banger too and my cold air intake helps a lot.

Why would people laugh? Nothing wrong with owning a 4 banger. I personally went with the v-6 for that reason however, wanted more acceleration and power. Is the gas mileage really that noticeable vs the 6?

Nothing will help in regards to an intake or exhaust.

They laugh because it's not only a 4cyl but also cause it a Prerunner! I live In Hawaii and apparently the Tacoma is our state truck! Lol... most who own a Tacoma is a v6 4x4 and anything else is a waste of money apparently! Lol.... and at the time that I had my v6 I worked a 45 minute drive from home with a position at that job being phased out so I had lessened hours making it harder for me.

Love how some 4x4 guys think they are superior just because all four wheels can move... You can always laugh and say real men drive full size trucks with V8’s! Or bash a 4x4 truck that runs an automatic transmission.. Haha... it’s never ending. I owned two 4x4’s prior to my 2wd... I can keep up with most 4x4 guys off-road. I do have a higher payload and tow rating than a 4x4, wouldn’t that make me the superior one.. o_O

In all seriousness, to each their own. Everyone has a truck for their specific purpose.

Don’t let the 4x4 decal trick you into thinking you can go anywhere.

I hear you! I'm so on the fence about giving up my Prerunner and jumping to a 3rd gen v6 4x4 but dang that hefty price tag that goes with it is holding me back! But not only that, I just don't want to make a bad decision Have had enough of that lately!! Just wish I could get her to respond a little quicker!

Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
The snow punished him. Or rather a tree punished him. Loads of snow and branches fell out of a tree crushing that cab: totaled the truck.

    Ain’t that right @T4RFTMFW

The LCE header is the best mod for the 4 cylinder. Doesn’t matter what else you put on, performance or not. The LCE header is the best you can do for your truck

For dealing with situations you recently faced I have found that throttle response is key.

While intakes, etc help I hear the pedal commander might provide what you really need.

$300 is a lot to me but in your case it may be the simplest. Low key approach.

Let is know how it goes!
