Pfft.... Toyota has another halo trim, the GR Corolla. And you can go from "attainable" base model to a more expensive tricked out trim.

I HATE the stupid porthole-style rear window. And the third brake light sticking out like it does like a weird mullet looking thing, Toyota said "Third brake lights leak, let's overdo this" - but it juts out into the bed area, for toppers, racks, etc - so it's just silly. Now nothing from a 1/2/3 gen can fit in there "cleanly".

Otherwise, go for it. I don't love turbos, and I wouldn't buy a 2024 (first MY of a generation), and I would NOT bring a hybrid onto the trails (that's so much weight). I would own a turbo though (That said, I'm more likely to get a ranger 2.3 I4 before the toyota, I like it, and it's going to be way less $$$. Let alone if I upped it to the 2.7 or the raptor...)

    Re: Cost

In 2019, the TRD Pro MSRP was 42,960 starting. That was for MY 2019, so in 2018.
Adjusted for inflation, the starting MSRP today SHOULD BE 53975.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is slated to start at $65,395, whereas the all-new Trailhunter model carries a base price of $64,395.

    Also, I won't lie, those suspension seats - I can't defend those, that's dumb.

Just throwing this out there any maybe someone else can weigh in, but I thought the new OR models are on par with the old Pros and the new Pros are a lot more capable than the old pros?

Because the majority of the opinators don't own one... The unknown just spook folks. I've owned 4 Tacomas, each lasting me more than 10 years, without issues. The 4th is the best, thus far.

Ultimately if they don't sell, the market will dictate the popularity of the 4th gen pro despite what folks may think of it.

I don't like the isodynamic seats and I wanted the better underbody protection that comes on the trailhunter. pro doesn't even get frame mounted rock sliders.

I don't see the hate, maybe I don't frequent those thread enough... Looks like a very reliable & capable out of the box Bro truck, you want it and can afford it, get it. For my life, I have better things to use 65k on, but that is me not you.

Additionally, the Tacoma used to be assembled by Americans getting paid $15/hr to being assembled in Mexico for $3/hr

Good ol' trickle-up economics I guess

    What's wrong with mullets?

I love the Pro! I didn’t need what it offers and couldn’t justify spending the $$, but would still love to have one.

I forgot to add I'm not cool enough for a Pro or a Raptor, my corny ass is going to look silly jumping out of one of those cool trucks. It's kind of like wearing leather pants you have to be made for that kind of thing.

Nobody is getting $15 or $3 hour working in a Toyota factory unless it’s 1975 haha.
Everyone is trained, if management lets things go then problems happen.
Going on 12 years trouble free with my $15 an hour assembled Tacoma

This math only works if it’s the same product. It’s a lot more truck (better drivetrain, suspension, tech, frame, etc), so expecting the (real) price to stay the exact same is kinda silly. The OR premium now is closer to what the old pro used to be, and it’s the same real price, but better in many ways

Human nature? People are generally afraid of change? Idiots with youtube channels making clickbait videos? I remember getting into a discussion in a beach parking lot with a new 2nd gen owner back in 2006ish. He was complaining about all the issues he was having with the truck, how Toyota reliability had gone down hill, & that he should have just kept his 1st gen etc. etc. Fast forward to the introduction of the 3rd gen. Anyone remember what a sh*t show the 3rd gen forum was? Based on the internet chatter those first few years, you would have thought the 3rd gen was the worst truck ever made LOL. Same as it ever was.

I’m old enough to remember when the 4runner actually cost more than the Tacoma.

I would say they are priced the same at this point unless you’re going to include the two door models that nobody will buy.
