I have a 2013 and I let my boyfriend drive me home from Vegas while I was alseep. He drove a good 100 miles or more before I woke up and asked him to pull over bc my truck felt like it was driving weird. Immediately upon switching seats I noticed I was in high 4. Now my truck has a weird wobble at 55- 70 mph in 2 hi. My question is, what is the potential damage that drive could have caused?

Whelp, first, sounds like you need a new BF if he couldnt figure out what the bright green dash light was.

If driven in a straight line there shouldnt be a problem. But if turns etc were taken things will bind up and cause excessive wear/damage

Hmmmm.......something doesn't add up....... 4 hr at 80 mph would be nearly 320 miles. 100 miles in 4 HI at 80 mph on dry roads is not particularly sharp. Time at that speed and distance is about 1 hr, 15 minutes.

But I don't think it would cause "..a weird wobble at 55- 70 mph in 2 hi" Suggest to check the wheel balance and the front suspension components and the lug nuts. Its more likely that a wheel weight has been lost or some component is loose.

Likely none. All the bits in the 4wd system are spinning anyway and when going mostly straight there isn't much of a binding force developed (lots of city street manovering and you'll get binding...you can feel it as drag in the drive train and hear it as tires scrub)

My bet would be inspect tires and wheels first.

Definitely need a new boyfriend lol. So those speeds in 4h on a straight away should be okay? My wobble could very well be from a number of factors I just wanted to make sure nothing is seriously damaged in my transfer case or anything like that. (4h =4high)

If you have no abnormal noises and the 4wd engages/disengages correctly you should be fine.
The shimmy is most likely something unrelated to the 4wd system but it would still be a good idea to raise the truck up and inspect everything.

Not supposed to be in 4X4 on pavement at any speed. While theoretically you don't do significant damage as long as you're driving in a straight line you are pushing the transfer case, U-Joints, and other parts beyond what they are designed for. And I'm betting that at some point the wheels were turned to enter a business, or your home which can cause major damage. While it may not have broken today you, or someone, will be replacing expensive parts sooner than they should be.

Stuff like this is why I won't buy used 4X4's. There is a good chance the next owner may end up paying for this.

Chances are that everything is fine.
The front drive shaft definitely got a workout at 80 mph. Maybe, just maybe there is a remote possibility the u-joints could cause the wobble. But I seriously doubt it.
Like Dm93 said, take a look underneath.
If it looks good, drive it.

And teach your boyfriend what switches go to what, and what the dash lights mean. Don’t be too hard on him. We all make mistakes.

You can drive as fast as you want in 4H. Given that speed I assume it was all highway miles, and the amount of turning and thus binding involved would be a complete non-issue. Guessing you have an unrelated issue, or just paying attention closer after the incident.

U joints and CVs not suppose to spin? Unless you've bind up the tcase turning very sharply, it's not going to hurt anything driving on pavement in 4H.

The tcase, front diff etc are FINE at those speeds in a straight line at highway speeds to long as tires are rotated to wear evenly front and rear. Its when turning and binding on high traction (pavement) surfaces that problems arise.

Hell, drove a few days on just FWD with no rear driveshaft as I did some work to it, just was nice to the gas, zero issues 100k miles later.

    Workin progress...
Driving my 3/4 ton diesel with my ATV in the back going 70 MPH down the highway for a couple miles in 4H before I remembered. Truck is fine. Granted its a solid front vs IFS but I've done 50 MPH down dirt roads in my taco and its been fine.

I'm pretty sure you're fine... your BF on the other hand...

You’re fine. Don’t listen to MarshallR. He bought a 4x4 and is scared to use it.

Probably just tires worn a little unevenly from the high speed journey in 4H? Maybe try rotating the tires and see if the wobble goes away as a first test.

My wife drove my truck to work everyday for a week a few years ago when I was away and out of phone contact. My guess is she was trying to turn on the headlights in the dark, and not being familiar with the control locations, she accidentally put it in 4H. Later in the week when I had a chance to talk to her she told me something was wrong with my truck because it bucked and jumped everytime she turned or tried to maneuver in the parking lot. She drove it like that for a week in stop and go traffic to and from work. I was concerned damage was done. I changed the transfer case and diffferential fluids and there was no sign of anything amiss. That was about 4 years ago and my truck hasn't shown any signs that anything is wrong. I wouldn't worry!

Toyota specifies a max speed to engage 4wd, I haven't seen a specified speed to not exceed in 4wd... granted driving safely may lower any specified speed.

This here is key, they specify 50 as the maximum to engage (as in actuate) 4wd...they don't then limit the vehicle to 50...OP's 4wd system is morre than likely just fine.
