    Going down that I would (personally) leave it in 4HI and manually select a gear for the auto tranny...4LO would keep you going way too slow...

    well ya...thats what it does. It is a low range gear. It feels like you are almost driving under water as it shifts through gears (especially with an auto). It will definitely take more rpms than normal to shift gears and it will take longer to build those rpms because the gearing is down so low. As said above you can go a fair speed while still in 4 lo...like 35 or something. Anything past that and you might as well put it back to 4hi.


    x2. 4lo is un necessarily low for that (omitting the endangered bird nonsense). looks like a gravel road...so i would honestly be in 2wd and L if the group was going slow.

    just checking. I have seen plenty of people over estimate the angle of a slope because at the time it seemed scary

    I'm pretty good at estimating slopes but they are usually expressed as " something in 12 "

    For example that 50% grade , is about 26 degrees , which to me is about 6 in 12 :)

    Steepest part is 50 degrees at the bottom. It's less on the way up until you get to the peak.
