Steepest part is 50 degrees. By no means the whole mountain is 50 degrees it's way much less on most parts. You're looking at 30 degrees for the most part.

Yes it's a gravel road. Yes you can try it in 2 wheel drive. Try at least. And trust me. Someone did try. Ended with a front end loader digging them out of the gravel. As for the endangered species. Yes it's nonsense.

I spend most of the time off road in 4Lo with my 5Speed 4Banger with 33" tires.
I start in second & go from there. I would rather not have to stop to go into 4Lo if I need real low.
    Most of the time I'm in 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Occasionally I use 1st or 5th.
I've gotten it up over 50MPH in 4Lo 5th gear once, then I said screw this stopped an put it in 4Hi.

You gotta have some momentum to get those trucks up that...and anything more than a 50 foot climb on that and you'd lose momentum and slide down on the gravel, 4x4 or not...

I'm gonna have to request video of this...this shows street tires on a lower vehicle on asphalt...even here you see the tires slipping...

Yes, slopes and grades are usually measured by percent, not degrees. I don't even think its possible to make a gravel road at 50 degrees.

There are nowhere 50 foot hill climb of 50 degrees. Just a few places such as going up to the ridge and where the turbines flatten out. And it's a gradual increase. Not sudden like the video. I'll take a vid when I go up again. We go up every other month.

That video is a 50 degree climb

Let me explain slope...just to make sure we are all on the same page...

Slope is a measure of change in elevation. One way to express slope is as a percentage. To calculate percent slope, divide the difference between the elevations of two points by the distance between them, then multiply the quotient by 100. The difference in elevation between points is called the rise. The distance between the points is called the run. Thus, percent slope equals (rise / run) x 100.

Calculating percent slope. A rise of 100 feet over a run of 100 feet yields a 100 percent slope. A 50-foot rise over a 100-foot run yields a 50 percent slope.

I think you may be confusing this with Slope Angle...

Another way to express slope is as a slope angle, or degree of slope. As shown below, if you visualize rise and run as sides of a right triangle, then the degree of slope is the angle opposite the rise. Since degree of slope is equal to the tangent of the fraction rise/run, it can be calculated as the arctangent of rise/run.

A rise of 100 feet over a run of 100 feet yields a 45° slope angle. A rise of 50 feet over a run of 100 feet yields a 26.6° slope angle.

I would not travel down a graded gravel road in 2wd if i had 4x4 as an option either...just makes mores sense to use 4x4...

From what I have read about the access road for the Kaheawa Wind Power project: "...included the construction of a 5 mile access road over difficult terrain. Average slope of access road and project site is 15%"

    K , if a rise of 100' to a run of 100' is 45 degrees , why is a rise of 50' to a run of 100' 26.6 degrees and not 22 1/2" ?

I do know what slopes, degrees, and percent gradients are. 45 degree has 1:1 ratio which is a 100% grade. 50 degrees is about 12:10 ratio and 50% is a 1:2 ratio which is a bit more than 25 degrees.

Since now were on the same page.

I'll reiterate once more. The road is mostly 30 degrees and gradually becomes 50 degrees at certain areas. Such as where the turbines are.

As for the 15% grade that you read. That article is for the first phase. The second phase was not completed until last year. And don't get me started on the old jeep trail that they mentioned in that article.

K I am still lost on where you are getting 50 degrees. You are telling me that at some point that road (which is appereny 50 degrees) is a steep as the rock hill in that video with the car? That is what you are saying. There is no way you could make it up a gravel road at 50 degrees, you can't build a gravel road at 50 degrees.

The road is mostly 30 degrees. I repeat and I reiterate. Some areas are 50 degrees. By no means the whole road is 50 degrees. The steepest parts are 50 degrees.

    Did somebody say 50 degrees?:stirthepot:

I'm not really sure how steep this dune is. Never really thought about. It is a bit steeper than it looks in the pic but I'm pretty sure it's still not as steep as the 50* slope that Audi went up in the vid.

Dings in the lower body panel/ underbody are like badges of honor... :D

Other than going to 265/75-16 (1" taller) tires, I am pure stock... and proud to show my Tacoma do things with the factory traction system and suspension.

I did add Ride Rites and 5100s to the rear of my 2005, but no improvements needed to my 2010 (thank the Lord they made better leafs), even though it seems some 2010 or newer Tacos still need the TSB?
