That is a fine answer!!! No worries... again we are so sorry you got stuck, but hope it will be the last time! All Terrain TAs are one of the most popular, yet I constantly see them failing... tread seperation, flats, and stuck in the mud! Give BFG the boot... !

Has anyone that has done this mod ran into any issues dealing with Toyota on service and warranty? I kinda doubt that they would even notice the mod, but just wondered if anyone has run into that. I think if I do this mod, I am going to put a switch in under the glove box to enable or disable the mod at will. At least that way if it is in for service and the switch is closed, there won't be any blinking lights on the dash if they try to engage L4.

I did it! It worked! I tried for half an hour to get that terminal to pop out of the connector but no matter how I poked and pried with a needle, I couldn't disengage the little clip. So I gave up and cut it.

Went for a spin in the dirt where some development is happening and climbed a few embankments of very loose soil. Felt it kick in a few times as I climbed over the crests at an angle and the front left would lose contact with the ground and start to spin a bit before TRAC kicked in and the right would grab to push us up and over.

So awesome. Going out tomorrow to play some more!

i agree. like i said i wish my truck had it. BUT in another note, now that i installed a rear locker the TRAC seems to work alot stronger in the front. maybe since it can concentrate all the braking power to one side. I was climbing the waterfall going up dishpan trail in big bear (look it up its gnarly) and started spinning on 3 wheels (both backs and one front) i felt the front kinda clunk and bang like ATRAC does and i was able to make it up. so TRAC with a rear locker works great!

Also this weekend i taught a new offroader how to use TRAC and ATRAC equipped on her FJ I printed out your "modes" list for her and it helped out alot. ATRAC does work great for medium terrain and some hard terrain.

This mod has gotten me out of a couple spots now. Well... truth be told, 4Hi with TRAC may have gotten me the same result but I really love this mod for the simple fact that I can keep it in 4L, where I might want to be for other reasons, and still get the traction aid of the TRAC system.

Last night when I was climbing over some slippery rocks/sand on my way out of a creek, while in 4L with TRAC engaged, I had to get the RPMs up a bit to get TRAC to kick in and pull me out. While doing so, the "Skid warning" light blinked and the beeping sounded. Is that expected/normal? Was I maybe giving it too much gas?

thats normal thats how you know its working. if you didnt have the yellow wire mod all traction aid/control would be off.

Trac needs somewheelspin to get you moving unfortunately, but it works and is better than open/open

Yoytoda shows it in the video... TRAC doesn't engage until some wheel spin has occured.

As for slippery rocks, if you're an automatic: use your brake with your left foot and bring up the RPMs with your right (loading the torque converter)... HB Murphy showed me this trick on our Mision Santa Maria run.

sick i think i will be doing this to my truck. what id like to do though is find an A-TRAC factory switch, and wire it up to this yellow wire. so when i push the A-TRAC button it will light up just like normal and will cut the power between the yellow wire. anyone know if i could do that? id put the switch down by my aux-input...

once you do the yellow wire mod you wont want it turned off...

also. if you turn the yellow wire mod off (by connecting the wires again or closing the switch) you have to trun the truck off and restart to reset the system...

just did the mod, thats pretty sick. trucks a tank. i have a feeling that it might benefit us with the 5 or 6 speed trannys more than the automatics...

it also kicks ass in deep snow!

it will help in those NH winters where 4 lo is needed

I also notice it helps reg cabs better, maybe since they are lighter it takes less to keep them moving

haha i was just wondering that! is it actually really helpful in the snow? i got stuck last yr and was so fuckin pissed! i shut traction control off though because i thought it would help just being able to give it everything it had. that was also with stock tires and wheels and stock suspension. i will def be trying it this year and ill know now to keep TRAC on. so the whole TRAC system toyota put in these truck is pretty top notch then? tell me a time when it has helped you the most either in snow or mud, your videos are pretty sick. do you have any other ones dude?

Transfering power to tires that have traction instead of biasing the power to tires that spin free is a great big improvement. The only people who say it isn't do not have it.... or are 'kids' who just want to spin donuts in parking lots and are not in a serious need to get somewhere. You do have to get over the beep-beep-beep and not let it annoy you or disable it (that is the VSC activation chime).

BFG AT's, Weathertechs, Hoppy's brake controller.
Pop out the 4wd knob and knife one of the 2 wires going to the device behind it.
    Takes about 1 minute.
